Proofreading: Step 1 • To proofread, a writer MUST check for errors in: • Proofreading is ESSENTIAL. • Spelling: Look in the Dictionary! • Grammar: Commas, End Punctuation, Ms. Park • Fluidity: Does it sound right? • Validity: Is what you’re saying true? • Argument: Does your statement back up the main point of your paragraph?

Proofreading: Step 2 • Quotes: • - Does your quote SUPPORT YOUR STATEMENT?? • * If it does not support your statement, you MUST select a new, more appropriate quote. • Check your MLA Citation: - Does your citation have: *Author’s LAST name *Correct page number • *Appropriate Quotation Marks • *End Punctuation

  3. Proofreading: Step 3 • Historical Facts: • - Are your dates/names correct? • Organization: • - ** Concentration Camps • - Body Paragraphs MUST go in order from least to most effective • - Statements inside body paragraphs MUST go in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER • *read: Beginning to End

Proofreading: Step 4 • Tips: • - Read the text out loud (at a non annoying level) • Helps you feel and hear your mistakes • - ASK FOR HELP • From your well qualified, educated and experienced teacher, Ms. Park • - Swap papers with a partner and peer grade • This can help you with your own writing and help out a buddy.
