  1. The Words Eighth Word

  2. Lessons • Question: • If we want to understand this world; • Nature and value of religion for man; • How this world becomes a prison for man if there is no religion; • And how without religion man becomes the most miserable of creatures; • Answer: • Then “O God” and “There is no god but God” is sufficient.

  3. Comparison • Road of Irreligion: • Serious looking man. • Forked road. • Choice. • Attractiveness of the road of irreligion comes from the lack of restrictions. • Mature to understand the reality of death. • The reality of death becomes too hard to handle so we jump into life and cling on to something. • The tree we cling on to is rotten. • Calamities and illnesses are prevalent. • We look around and we observe things that are out of the ordinary. • Even though our heart, spirit and mind weeps, our Nefis attempts to enjoy itself. • “He neither dies so that he is saved from it, nor does he live - he is in such torment.”

  4. Comparison cont. • Road of Religion: • Garden with flowers and filth due to the exam. • Concentrate on and only take what is good. • Mature to understand the reality of death but not as frightened. • Good thoughts and positive attitude. • Jump into life and cling on to a tree. • Calamities and illnesses are prevalent. • Observe things that are out of the ordinary. • From these observations, an endeavour towards knowing, loving and worshiping God arises.

  5. Finer Points • Good thoughts and positive attitude. These are the attributes of a true believer. There is no reason for the contrary to manifest in a believer. • The value of religion can be seen from the example as it is the road that directs humans to their purpose of life. That is, knowing, loving and worshiping God. • Unbelievers are miserable, fearful and in a place of darkness. Believers are joyful, full of hope, and have a sense of belonging.

  6. Finer Points cont. • We are here to sample things and not to completely satisfy our wants and needs. • We are responsible if we make our lives hell. A person who takes drugs and hallucinates and imagines things to filthy, scary, etc... can only blame himself. • “Everything from one thing, and one thing from everything.”
