Your city in 4 words • Use 4 words to describe the city where you are from • After everyone shares, explain why you chose those 4 words

Meals Breakfast: Your hotel provides a free breakfast Lunch: Most lunches will be on campus at the cafeteria We will notify you in advance if you need to purchase a lunch for an off campus activity. Dinner: You have an ALI debit card with money to purchase food for dinner and any lunches that you are not on campus for

  19. Hotel Shuttle • Holiday Inn provides a shuttle to transport guests up to 3 miles (4.8 km).

  20. Local Bus The bus is an easy way to get around Kansas City. • Enter in the front. • Let others exit before you enter. • Swipe your student ID card. • Pull the yellow cord before your stop. • Exit out the back door.

  24. Health Insurance • IIE provides health insurance • You are responsible for any co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses *These amounts are estimations. Contact IIE for specific questions about your insurance plans.

Health Insurance – what to do (non-emergency) • Health & Wellness Center on UMKC Campus • Make an appointment online • No co-pay for appointment • Fees for specialized treatment (blood tests, etc.) • Minute Clinics & Urgent Care Centers • Look at PDPI page on ALI’s website for clinic names and addresses • Must pay a co-pay for appointment • *Contact Colin if you need help!

  26. Health Insurance – what to do (emergency) • In the US, Emergency Rooms (ER) should only be used in real emergency situations because they are very expensive. • Call 911 if you need an ambulance. • Closest ER to UMKC: • Saint Luke’s Hospital of KC • 4401 Wornall Road

  27. Pharmacy If you need a prescription filled, there are three pharmacies less than 5 miles from campus. Go to the PDPI webpage on ALI’s website for names and addresses. *Contact Colin if you need help!

  28. Other Emergencies WEATHER Severe Thunderstorm Warnings: • Stay inside • Can cause hail and strong winds  stay away from windows • Stay away from areas with a lot of water

  29. Other Emergencies WEATHER Tornado Warnings: • Rare but it can happen • Go to the basement or the lowest part of the building • Stay away from windows • Do not go outside!!

  30. Personal Safety • Kansas City is a safe city, but you should always be aware of your personal safety. • It’s never a good idea to walk around alone at night. • Call 911 if you need help from the police.
