Adverbs of frequency příslovce četnosti
What are adverbs of frequency: • Tell us how often the action happens • Connected mainly with present simple and past simple tense
What are they? • always - vždy • usually - obvykle • often - často • sometimes - někdy • hardly ever – zřídkakdy • never - nikdy
Where they go: between the subject and verb or between the two parts of the verb
Examples • I sometimes go fishing. • They often travelled to Croatia. • My friend is usually late. • Jane doesn´t always come in time.
Be careful! • Hardly ever • never Have negative meaning!!!
Examples: • We never go to the cinema during the week. Nikdy nechodíme v týdnu do kina. • The shop hardly ever opens before nine. Tento obchod zřídkakdy otevírá před devátou.
Expressions of frequency • they are usually at the end of the sentence • express how often the action happens • connected with all tenses
Expressions of frequency are: • every • every year • every night • every month • once, twice, three times.... • once a month • twice a week • three times a year
Examples • I go swimming every weekend. • John travelles abroad every year. • I can´t go shopping twice a day. • Dou you play football three times a week?
Questions to the adverbs of frequency • How Often.....? • in all tenses • How often do you go skating? • Not often, about once two months. • I go often skating at the weekend.
