  1. Math Vocabulary Words Kissryn Batton Mrs. Bishop 2nd period

  2. Integers A positive ornegative number 0, 1,2,3, etc.

  3. Rational Numbers A numberthatcanbeexpressed by aratio of two integers.

  4. Scientific Notation Method to express a given quantity as a numberhaving significant digits necessary for a specified degreeofaccuracy,multipliedby10totheappropriatepower, like 1385.62 or also written 1.386 × 103 .

  5. Perfect Squares A rational numbers that equal to the square number of another rational number.

  6. Irrational Number A number that cannot be exactly expressed as a ratio of two integers.

  7. Real Numbers A rational numbers or the limit of a sequence of rational numbers , as opposed to a complex number.

  8. Destiny Property The agency that determines if you can get the property or not.

  9. Adjacent angles Two angles having the same vertex and having a common side between them.

  10. Coefficient Mathematics . a number or quantity placed (generally) before and multiplying another quantity, as 3  in the expression 3x.

  11. Distance Formula To find the distance between two different points you use the coordinates of the ordered pairs and plug them into the formula which is the √(x₂- x₁)² + (y₂- y₁)² .

  12. Domain The domain of square root.

  13. Hypotenuse The side of a right triangle  opposite the right angle.

  14. Legs of a right triangle In the above right triangle ABC, AB and BC are the legs of the triangle which are shorter sides and AC is the hypotenuse which is the longest side.

  15. Range Range is when you take the big # and subtract the smallest # from it and get the answer from it.

  16. Slope To direct at a slant or inclination; incline from the horizontal or vertical.

  17. Scientific Notation Short way to express large numbers: a way of expressing a given number as a number between 1 and 10 multiplied by 10 to the appropriate power. 5,743.6 expressed in scientific notation is 5.7436 × 103.

  18. Prism Solid for dispersing light: a transparent polygonal solid object with flat faces and a usually triangular cross section, used for separating white light into a spectrum of colors.

  19. Scatter Plot A scatter plot is a graph made by plotting ordered pairs in a coordinate plane to show the correlation between two sets of data.

  20. Slope Intercept Form The equation of a straight line in the form y = mx + b where m is the slope of the line and b is its y-intercept.

  21. Absolute Value A nonnegative number equal in numerical value to a given real number.
