  10. Why did Jesus want to maintain the Messianic secret ?

  11. Mark 16 : 1-8 “When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body. Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?“ But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

  12. "Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' " 8Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.”

  13. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.” [(The most reliable early manuscripts and other ancient witnesses do not have Mark 16:9-20.)]

  14. But if verses 9 to 20 are of God, how can we account for the fact that the earliest manuscripts and some ancient witnesses do not have them ?

  15. The original writer, the disciple Mark, ended the gospel intentionally at verse 8, for a very important reason. • Then, some time after the gospel of Mark had been circulated, the early church, also by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, included additional information (which are true) so that the Church can be clearly taught what they are to do with the Resurrection of Christ. Hence the 2 versions of the Gospel of Mark. Nevertheless, Mark 16:9-20 is also of the Holy Spirit.

  16. The very important reason why the disciple Mark ended at verse 8 has to do with the Messianic secret. The Messianic secret is this : No matter what great thing Jesus has done for you, whether healing, or forgiveness of sins, or deliverance from demonic powers,

  17. and no matter what powerful thing you have seen Jesus do, whether raising someone from the dead, or talking with the greatest heroes in history, or even an audible voice from heaven saying He is the Son of God, You will NOT KNOW Jesus truly UNTILyou understand His Suffering, Death on the Cross, and Resurrection from the dead. And if you don’t truly know Jesus, how can you tell others of Him properly ?

  18. But if the one who was healed does not grow in faith, does not know about the suffering, death on the cross, & resurrection of Christ, then this person have missed a greater blessing of knowing Christ truly.

  19. The Messianic secret is this : No matter what great thing Jesus has done for you, whether healing, or forgiveness of sins, or deliverance from demonic powers, … You will NOT KNOW Jesus truly UNTILyou understand His Suffering, Death on the Cross, and Resurrection from the dead.

  22. and no matter what powerful thing you have seen Jesus do, whether raising someone from the dead, or talking with the greatest heroes in history, or even an audible voice from heaven saying He is the Son of God, You will NOT KNOW Jesus truly UNTILyou understand His Suffering, Death on the Cross, and Resurrection from the dead.

  23. They needed to know that the basis of God’s power is His sacrificial love – ie, the Cross. And the purpose of God’s love is for all people to be reconciled to Him and each other. God’s blessing is not just for me, but for others as well.

  24. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' " Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.”

  25. In the Messianic Secret, Jesus told people to shut up whenever they see something incredible and miraculous connected with Him. In Mark 16:7, the 3 women were told to GO AND TELL Peter and the other disciples of this Incredible, Miraculous thing about Jesus – that Jesus Christ has risen from the dead !

  26. In the first version of Mark’s Gospel, the women were afraid and they didn’t tell. Would you, the reader, overcome your fear or other obstacles, and GO AND TELL about Jesus ? Can you please go and complete this story and make it a happy ending ?

  27. Mark 16 : 9-20 “When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping. When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen Him, they did not believe it. Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country. These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.

  28. Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; He rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. “He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

  29. they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well." After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and He sat at the right hand of God. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed His word by the signs that accompanied it.” – Mark 16:9-20

  30. There are so many worlds that we are called to go to : legal world, business world, sports world, IT world, medical world, heart-lander world, taxi world, political and civil service world, educational world, and virtual Internet world, and in those worlds, we are to bring forth the good news of Jesus Christ, we are to bring forth the transformational power of God.

  31. Some of you may need healing first – that’s why you are here in church – God can meet you right here, right now. But after you are patched up, go and complete the story of Mark. Go and bring the Gospel to the world. Not just in Telling, but in Being and Transforming.
