  1. UMPIRING NEWSLETTER HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all! I know it may seem like New Year was a long time ago but this is our first Newsletter of 2008. We’ve listed in this months Newsletter the upcoming courses in February one is at fairly short notice so please act promptly to ensure that you have a place. We’ve provided some details of upcoming events in the All England netball Calendar and links to some interesting sites or Forums that may be of use to you. We have begun to compile the Umpiring database and will begin to cross reference this against the score cards and signatures so please be aware that all umpires must be qualified to umpire the league you are asking them to do or have taken the league award assessment. We have had concerns from members regarding the standard of umpiring not only at the Premier Division level but also in the other Divisions. A mentor has been provided to guide and advise the Premier umpires and will be umpiring a Premier game herself to help further in guiding these umpires. If there is seen to be no improvement in the standard of umpiring after the mentoring sessions have been completed the committee will have to review the level and qualifications of the umpires and enforce more training. The other divisions are being checked not only through the database to ensure they have the correct standard of umpire but also with attendance at matches to review the general standard. Any team found to not have the correct umpire for their division will be penalised 4 points the same as an umpire not attending. The same for umpires that are not registered with the Umpiring sub committee or who have not attended a refresher course as required last year.

  2. FORUMS • We’ve heard recently many discussions surrounding the implementation of new rules and how they are applied to the game especially in the context of the Aylesbury League. • We’ve listed below a link to the All England Netball site and a forum that they have set up to allow players, umpires, coaches and anyone who is involved in Netball to discuss new rules or any topic that is of interest. • www.englandnetball.co.uk/Forum
