  1. FLEXIBLE MANUFACTURING SYSTEM

  2. Flexibility ? The ability to deal with slightly or greatly mixed parts, To allow variation in parts assembly and variations in process sequence, change the production volume and change the design of certain product being manufacturing.

  3. Another statement about flexibility…. • Flexibility become a key consideration in the design of manufacturing system. • Support changes in production capabilities or activities. • The ability of a system to cope with changing circumstances (situation). • Consists of various different components such as machine flexibility, routing flexibility, volume flexibility etc

  4. Definition of Flexible Manufacturing System “Consists of a group of processing stations (usually CNC machines) ; interconnected by means of an automated handling and storage system and controlled by an integrated computer system.” Capable of processing a variety of different types of job/part under NC program control at the various workstations so we can refer it as FMS

  5. Flexibility is generally considered to 2 categories, which is : a) Machine flexibility The ability to be changed to produce new product types, and ability to change the order of operations executed on a part. b) Routing flexibility The ability to use multiple machines to perform the same operation on a part, as well as the system's ability to absorb large-scale changes, such as in volume, capacity, or capability.

  6. Components of FMS Processing Stations CNC machine tools to perform machine operations on families part. Material Handling Devices Used to transport the work parts and subassemblies between the processing stations. Used for loading and unloading raw materials and finished parts. Auxiliary Equipments (Peralatantambahan) FMS can include cleaning, automated measurement and inspection equipment. Computer Control System To co-ordinate the activities of the processing stations and material handling system.

  7. Structure of FMS System controller Loading and unloading station Work transport system Material handling system Storage Auxiliary equipments Machine tools

  8. FMS Applications Example : Vought Aerospace FMS Installation plan of the Vought workshop F.M.S

  9. Elements of the Vought F.M.S.: - • Eight 4-axes Milacron 20 HC horizontal machining centre with Allen Bradley numerical control and a 90 capacity tool magazine. • A washing station. • 4 wire-guided vehicles. • Two Carousals, each with 10 spaces. • Two D.E.A. vertical measuring machines, with transverse movement and heads with two axes of rotation. • A rectification centre. • Swarf treating system.

  10. A 5 machine FMS for machining at Cincinnati Milacron

  11. FMS Flanging machine is a totally hydraulic machine suitable for the flanging of bottoms of different thickness with or without central hole. The machine is made up of a bottom holding trolley with vertical and horizontal movements, a forming roll on which the roll is presses to get the desired radius, a flanging roll which is used to adapt the bottom to the forming roll, guiding rolls which move on suitable guides which have the function to keep the bottom pressed against the forming roll.

  12. BAMTRI has offered a large number of advanced manufacturing technologies and equipments for the development of new type aircraft, aero engines, and technical renovations to aircraft manufacturers.

  13. Computer Aided Design / Computer Aided Manufacturing CAD/CAM

  14. CAD Definition : An approach to product and process design that utilizes the power of computer. It involves the computer to create design drawings and product models.

  15. Lagi tentang CAD…

  16. Sejarah CAD • Muncul dr tahun 1964 dan mula digunakan • sepenuhnya pd tahun 1982 • Peringkat awal program CAD ditulis dlm • bahasa pengaturcaraanFOTRAN • (FORmula TRANslator) dan juga PASCAL.

  18. Peringkat-peringkat Rekabentuk • Menetapkan apakah rekabentuk yg ingin dicapai • Memikirkan cara-cara untuk memulakan melukis rekaan • Segala maklumat yg dikumpul untuk rekaan mestilah direkodkan dan • Didokumentasikan untuk tujuan perkilangan • 1.Konsep 2.Sintesis 3.Analisis • 4.Ukuran perbandingan (Evaluation) 5.Dokumentasi • Model Peringkat Rekabentuk berasaskan 3F : • Form : Faktor rupa, gaya dan bentuk rekaan • Fit : Keupayaan kpd permintaan pasaran atau keselamatan ; pengguna • Satisfy atau tidak? Atau selamat ? • Function : Fungsi rekaan (Cth skru)

  19. 1. KonsepRekabentuk : • Berulang (repetations) • Asalan (originality) • 2. Sintesis • Perlufikirkanbanyakaspekdarisegibahanygsesuaidigunakan; saizdan • dimensiyglogik. • 3.
