The process is called citation, and APA citation generator is one of the most widely used citation styles in practice. While there are several APA citation generators and Chicago citation generator available online, you should learn the citation style basics to improve your performance. The APA style follows the author-date style of in-text citation. The author's last name and the year of publication for the source need to be mentioned in the text in simpler words. Here is an example – (Peterson, 2008). In case you are using a direct quote in the text, you need to add the page number as well in the APA referencing. In case the source of data involves multiple pages, you should use "pp." instead "p." before listing the page numbers. There are several other rules that you need to follow for error-free APA citation:  Always capitalise the first letter of all the proper nouns, including the name of the author and initials; e.g. J. Peterson.  If you are referring to the title of a source within the paper, capitalise the first letter of all the words except the articles and prepositions within the title; e.g. Art of War. In case the title starts with an article or preposition, you will have to capitalise the first letter of the word. [In the reference list, capitalise only the first letter of the first word in the title]  When you are capitalising a hyphenated compound word, you need to capitalise the first letter of both of words; e.g. Home-Grown Tomatoes.

  2.  Capitalise the first letter of the first word after a dash or a colon; e.g. “With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa”. Now, these are the basic rules of APA citation style. However, the rules often vary depending on certain elements of the source. Types of In-Text Citation in APA The APA format in-text citations you add in your paper depend a lot on how you write the sentences. Based on the structure of your sentences, the in-text citations are classified into two types: I. Narrative: In this form of in-text citation, you need to put the author’s name in the sentence itself. Here’s how it is put: Peterson (2008) makes it a lot easier for readers by describing how it happened. He mentioned that the Britishers were still ruling the country when the plague hit (p. 109). II. Parenthetical: In this type of in-citation, the author's name is mentioned within parentheses, generally at the end of the quote or fact. Here is an example: The most widely accepted theory behind the plague outbreak was the poor sanitation in the country. It is surprising given the fact that the Britishers were still ruling the country. (Lee, 2006, p. 109).

  3. Hopefully, now you can perform the APA citation with more confidence.
