  1. On Demand product On Demand product new communities Repository Repository Practical Objectives For Earth Science users: • To provide reliable, easy, effective access to PB’s of heterogeneous Earth Science data • To harmonise data access operations • To demonstrate data curation and prepare for long term preservation oceanographists biologists geologists ...other... GENESI-DR collaboration platform • To validate DR access capabilities fornew communities, includingeducation • To integrate innovative technological paradigmsin operational infrastructures responding to emerging requirements

  2. Frame Information System Atmosphere Atmosphere Atmosphere Cryosphere Cryosphere Cryosphere Biosphere Biosphere Biosphere Ocean Ocean Ocean Coupled and interdisciplinary processes Complex web of sensors GENESI-DR challenges With GENESI-DR Earth Scientists could: • Have single access to space, airborne and in situ sensors data • Combine data with user tools and models • Overcome DR specific data policies • Establish a world-wide leadership • Capitalise on high-speed connectivity for user data access / exchange GENESI-DR e-infrastructure to be integrated by 2009

  3. Approach and Infrastructure • Networking Activities NA1: Management NA2: Outreach, Standards NA3: Applications NA4: Data Policies • Support Activities SA1: Services & Operations SA2: Infrastructure Evolution • Joint Research Activities JRA1: Fast Data Access JRA2: Data Curation • Infrastructure highlights: • Service Oriented Architecture, compliant with Open Archival Information System(ISO 14721) • Interface to GRID infrastructures • Specialised metadata environment(ISO 19115) • In line withINSPIRE (EU directives) • Compatibility with GEOSS(Global Earth Observation System of Systems)

  4. Expected results and Impact Expected results: • Integrated data access • 20+ space missions, 10+ acquisition facilities, etc. • from 10+ repositories’ sites • 100’s TB to PB of data • Earth Science selected domains • Orthorectification (near real time) – Agriculture • Urban mapping - Emergency Response • Data assimilation - Atmosphere • Data assimilation – Ocean • Global offer to new scientific applications • perform processing and shared applications exploiting repositories and GRID computing resources Expected Impact: • Earth System information as the essential foundation for sustainable development policies • Integration at European level to set up the necessary standardisation frame which shall then be proposed at the global scale
