  7. Sharing of the market in Austria 1975-2006 according to function Main application 66% hot water

  8. Heizung Brauchwasser Heating and hot water heat pumps Austrian market Änderungen in % pro Jahr

  9. Heat pump market in Austria Total 13.600 Main application new units – heating

  10. Heat pumps – “heating” – heat source

  11. Air/water Water/water Soil/water Share of heat source Anteil in %

  12. Development of Seasonal Performance Figure of heating heat pumps in Austria Direct expansion Water/water Brine/water Air/water SPF • State of the art: Water/water: SPF = 4,2 • Brine/Water: SPF =4,0 • Direct expansion: SPF = 4,3 • average SPF hot water heat pumps stock SPF = 2,8; • state of the art SPF = 3,2. • heat pump test centre Buchs: 2007 highest ever meassured COP hot water heat pump (COP=3,5)

  13. Heat pumps – a sustainable technology Heat pump SPF:4 Efficiencyfactor Electricity: 40% Share of Renewables 70% Losses 60% 75% Ambient Heat 100% useful energy 92,5% renewable

  14. gasvessel Oilvessel Heat pumps a sustainable Energy technology Reduction of CO2-emissions 80% compared to oil and gas Reduction der CO2- emissions Reduction of CO2-emissions SPF

  15. Austrian heat pump action plan Initiatet by the BWP Should be a complementary to the biomass action plan and the solar action plan. Should make sure, that heat pumps are decently represented in the concert of renewable energy- technologies Should contribute to the national energy efficiency guideline of Austria and therefore it was presented to political decision-makers. Goal: to point out the potential of heat pumps referring to economical and ecological targets So f.e. the potential to: reduce the demand on primary energy to reduce the emissions of CO2 to reduce the emissions of other greenhaus gases and polluting substances. to increase the economic value added to show effekts on employment

  19. European Market heat pumps – heating 2006

  20. European Heatpump Association The European Heat Pump Association is representing the European Heat Pump industry on EU-level in Brussels. Chairman is Mr. DI Karl Ochsner (OCHSNER Wärmepumpen) • Objectives: • Promote recognition of Heat Pumps as renewable energy devices • Promote Heat Pumps to consumers as energy efficient, environmental- friendly and long-term cost-efficient choice • 53 Membercompanies and –institutions (from 21 countries) • Heat pump producer • National heat pump associations • Consulting companies • Component suppliers • Research and testing institutes www.ehpa.org

  21. BWP 2 heatpump Associations in Austria • In Austria there exist two national heat pump associations: • BWP A =Bundesverband WärmePumpe Austria • Members: heat pump manufacturers, ass. of installers • Chairman is Mr. DI Karl Ochsner (OCHSNER Wärme- • pumpen) • LGWA = Leistungsgemeinschaft Wärmepumpe Austria • Members: heat pump installers

  22. BWP 2 heatpump Associations in Austria • Goal of both associations: • to promote the use of heat pumps in Austria (also on political level) • Information and public relations • Cooperations with other national associations • to collect and publicize market data • to influence guidelines of promotion programms • to cooperate within the klima:aktiv program for heat pumps

  23. BWP Klima:aktiv Program All klima:aktiv programms have a common goal: less CO2 emissions and increased use of renewable energy. klima:aktiv is lauchend till 2012 Klima:aktiv is funded by the ministry for environment and sponsored by national heat pump manufacturers. Aim is to bring climate- friendly technologies (building, mobility-, renewable energy- sector) onto the market in a rapid way. Content of the programms PR for target groups Progression concerning quality standards Networking of involved actors

  24. Future markets • Air conditioning • Retrofit: flow temperatures of 65˚C for radiators • Passivhouses • Producing industry/service industry

  25. Air conditioning Target 2020 – 25% Minus 13 % Power consumption

  26. Air conditioning with heat recovery in Passivhouses Trend is going in the direction of energy efficient buildings (15 kWh/m2a) Until 2020 62% - 98% of all New Buildings will have Passivhausstandard – no need for a firing system Growth rate 140 %

  27. Public buildings 5% Health sector 8% Industry 28% Schools 17% Tourism 22% Credit/Insurances etc. 20% Potential for heat pumps in the sector Industriy and service Potencial 15 PJ Quelle: eigene Berechnung Nutzenergie Raumwärme vgl.: Statistik Austria (Hrsg.): Nutzenergie-Analyse 1988…, S.48 ff, S.56 ff. u.
