  3. Why use PBS- Positive Behavior Systems We are introducing to you a system to reward students who exhibit good behavior, who come to school, who make good grades, and who make GOOD choices because these are the behaviors we want in ALL students.

  4. 5 Step Process Implementing the Positive Behavior system (PBS) in your school…..What can we expect?? Learn how to focus your time and energy rewarding positive behavior rather than allowing negative behavior within your classroom or school. See results with a simple five step process. 1) Defining a set of clear rules and expectations; 2) Teaching the expected behaviors to students; 3) Providing increased levels of praise and rewards for appropriate social behaviors; 4) Monitoring students behavior to provide consistent enforcement of the rules; 5) Utilizing frequent summary data about student behavior to evaluate progress and further develop intervention plans.

  9. Daily Schedule •1st period - Arrival / ID Badges / Tardies •2nd period - Hallways •3rd period - Staircase •4th period - Restroom •5th period -Dress Code •6th period - P.R.I.D.E. •7th period - Lockers •8th period - Dismissal / Buses

  10. Arrival • Doors open at 9:00 am. • •ID badge must be on and in dress code upon entering the building. • •Must purchase an ID badge if badge is lost • •Cannot leave cafeteria until 8:25 am unless the student has received a tutoring pass

  11. Class Rules 1st Offense-Conference with Student 2nd Offense-Parent Contact 3rd Offense- Parent/Student Contact 4th Offense-Referral

  12. Dress Code • Teachers-please review DISD dress code guidelines. • Students will be checked for dress code upon arrival. • Send students with questionable or inappropriate clothing to the AP or Principals office. • BE CONSISTENT.

  13. Hallways • All students must walk down the right hand side of the hallways. • •No student is allowed in the hallways without a hall pass. Students caught or questioned in the without a pass will be sent back to class and are subject to disciplinary action. • •Students are NOT allowed to STOP and congregate in the hallway. The traffic flow must keep moving. • •Be mindful of the noise level.

  14. Hall Passes Hall passes are color coded according to hallways. We have a yellow, blue, and green, event hall. You should not be out of your assigned hallway unless going to the office or nurse. Failure to comply results in disciplinary action. You will be required to sign out of your classroom to get a hall pass.

It’s all about time… • 1673 referrals • What if each student ONLY missed 20 minutes when a referral was written and sent to the office? • We lost over 373 HOURSof class time. • We lost over 47 DAYS. • Almost 10 WEEKSwere lost… • OVER 2 MONTHS! • That does noteven account for time spent in the office waiting to be seen, classroom detentions, ISS, or out of school suspensions.

  37. CAFETERIA Students without an ID badge must go to the end of the line. Students are not allowed to get back in line or go to the restroom after downtime. Students will have assigned seats during lunch in accordance with their 4thperiod teacher. Food and drinks cannot be taken out of the cafeteria. Tables and floors must be clean before dismissal. Students must have a pass from assigned personnel in order to leave the cafeteria.

TARDY •Students will use time allotted during passing periods wisely to go to the restroom, get a drink, go their lockers and arrive to class on time. •Students will be in the appropriate classroom when the bell rings. •Staff will be consistent in issuing tardies and logging them in Skyward. •10-10 Rule…No passes will be given during this time.

TARDY • Consequences: (per Semester) • –1st Offense-Verbal Warning • –2nd Offense-Written Warning • –3rd Offense-DETENTION • –4thOffense-ISS • Tardy Lockout- • From time to time a “Tardy Lockout” will be called on the PA by administrators. All students caught will report to the main stairwell and receive an afterschool (Mr. Cunningham) detention.

  41. RESTROOM GO, FLUSH, WASH, LEAVE Students will make every effort to use the restroom before class during the passing period, at lunch, and before school. Restrooms are locked between 8 am -8:45 am and 3:30 pm –3:45 pm except for the restroom by the cafeteria. Restroom passes will only be issued at teacher discretion during class time. Passes will NOT be issued during the first ten minutes of class unless it’s a true emergency of illness.

  42. CELL PHONE • Display, turn on, or use of a cellular telephone or other telecommunication device(s) on school property during the school day. • Each offense: confiscation of cell phone and $15 fine. • WISD is not responsible for lost or stolen phones.

  43. ELECTRONIC DEVICES • Possession of personal electronic items (cameras, video games, radios, tape recorders, cassette players, CD players, IPods, MP3 players, GameBoy, Blackberry, headphones)Each offense: confiscation of cell phone and $15 fine. • WISD is not responsible for lost or stolen electronic items.

  44. LOCKER LOGIC • Visit locker ONLY at designated times. • Girls-3,5,7 Boys-2,4,6 Everyone-1,8 • All bags and backpack go in your locker. NO EXCEPTIONS. Girls purses can be no larger the a sheet of notebook paper. • Open and close locker door quietly. • No loitering! • Respect the locker areas of your neighbor. • Keep your combination to yourself. • No sharing lockers. • Make sure no items are hanging out the side of your lockers when closing it.

  45. DISMISSAL •Students will stay in their 8thperiod class until their they are dismissed on the PA. •Students are notallowed to go to their lockers after school. •Restrooms are locked after school 3:30-3:45. Should an emergency arise please go to the front office. •No roaming or loitering in the hallway. All students should exit the building immediately. •If you are a bus rider, you will sit at assigned seats in the cafeteria. Noise should be kept to a minimum to ensure everyone can here their bus number called. •Car riders-students have designated zones… girls on one side boys on the other. •Car riders must wait for an adult and cross at the crossing section. •Once you leave the building or the school property you cannot come back. Failure to comply can result in disciplinary action.

RIDING BUSES • Board assigned bus in an orderly manner. • Treat bus driver with respect and follow instructions at all times. • Shouting or yelling on the bus is NOT appropriate. • Report dangerous behaviors to the driver. • Keep all parts of your body and other objects inside the bus at all times. • Do NOT eat or drink on the bus. • Riding the bus is privilege and not a right. Make sure you follow all rules. Failure to comply can result in removal from the bus.
