Who are Babcock 4S? • Babcock 4S is a joint venture partnership between Surrey County Council and Babcock International. • provides all school improvement and school support services in Surrey. • participated in the Pilot for this programme in Summer 2012 • won one of 3 London licenses awarded by National College

  3. Why this programme? • The coalition government are committed to strengthening governance in our schools and holding us to account. • This programme has been developed by the National College to support this commitment/expectation.

  4. The aim of the programme • It is a Leadership programme: • To enable chairs and aspiring chairs to: • Develop their leadership skills • To reflect on how they lead the governing body • To strengthen their leadership of the school improvement agenda

  5. Overview of the programme • 3 Units, each focusing on a whole day session: • Unit 1. The Role of the Chair • Unit 2. Effective Governance • Unit 3. School Improvement • Supplemented by online learning, support, and school-based activity • Facilitated over a six month period

  6. Beyond the face to face sessions: • 360° analysis (diagnostic) • Learning Log • Interactive online community • online learning materials at National College • “Dig Deeper” – links to research • Learning partners/Lead facilitator support • School-based activity

Why is there a cost? • The programme is not part of your governor training and support SLA • The programme is delivered under licence from National College for Teaching and Leadership • It provides high quality delivery, engagement, support and resources • Governor professional development should be valued
