  1. Is There a Treatment for Thyroid? Hyperthyroidism when an overactive thyroid starts generating more hormones than what is need by your body. It is a gland at the front of your neck and the hormones it produces help your body balance its use of energy. These hormones manage your metabolism, weight, heart rate, body temperature and overall health. The most common symptoms of hyperthyroidism are anxiety, rapid heartbeat, difficulty in sleeping and excessive sweating. There are many effective treatments for hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism can be dealt with by a medication known as beta-blockers. This medication blocks the effects of the excess hormones but does not directly affect the thyroid itself. Beta-blockers do not cure hyperthyroid and do not reduce the number of hormones being produced. If you are suffering from thyroid cancer surgical removal of the gland or nodule and radioactive iodine treatment are the most effective thyroid cancer treatments. Radioactive iodine is recommended for the permanent treatment of hyperthyroid. This treatment has the advantage that thyroid cells are the only cells in the body that have the ability to absorb iodine. If you get a radioactive form of iodine, the thyroid cells that absorb it will be killed or damaged. Surgical removal of the gland is another permanent treatment for the thyroid. This treatment is extremely effective, especially for those who suffer from thyroid cancer.
