  1. Location of Zagreb • Zagrebis the capital and the largestcity of the RC. • It is located in the northwest of the country, along theSava river, at thesouthern slopes of the Medvednica mountain. • Population of the City of Zg is1,107,623. • It is the only metropolitan area inCroatia.

History of Zagreb • The first recorded appearance of the nameZagrebis dated to 1094, at which time the city existed as two different city centers:eastern Kaptol and western Gradec. • Gradec and Zagreb were united in 1851 by ban Josip Jelačić,who was credited for this,with the naming the main city square, Ban Jelačić Square in his honour.

Government • The city of Zagrebhas a special status (it performs self-governingpublicaffairs of both city and country). • City of Zagreb is political and administrative center of the Republic of Croatia with seatof Parliament,President and Government of the Republic of Croatia. • Parlament is situated on the St. Marks square, one of the famous arhitecture monumans in the city.

Traffic and network • Zagreb Electric Tram (ZET) is the public transportation company (trams and buses). • The city has an extensive avenue network wich connect most of the city districts. • Zagreb International Airport (Pleso) is located 17 km south-east from the city center. • Zagreb is connected with almost all capital citys in Europe.
