  2. Precipitation Calculations • Allows us to predict whether or not a precipitate will form when two solutions are mixed. Keep in mind that when two solutions are mixed the new concentration needs to be recalculated. • Steps • Find concentrations of each solution after mixing. • Determine what precipitate could form. • Calculate a “trial product” • Compare the “trial product” to the Ksp value. • If the trial > Ksp, then a ppt will form • If the trial < Ksp, then a ppt does not form
