  2. INTRODUCTION • A catalyst increases the rate of a reaction but remains chemically unchanged. • The catalyst allows the reaction to proceed by an alternate reaction mechanism with a lower activation energy. Acatalyst is not consumed in a chemical reaction! MANGANESE PEROXİDE

  3. AIM • The purpose of this experiment is to show the effect of a catalyst on the rate of a reaction.

  4. EXPERIMENT • Experiment : the speed at which the oygen was given off using a catalyst is inveestigated using the apparrus above.

  5. OBSERVATION • This reaction normally proceeds very slowly. When the catalyst, manganese dioxide, is added, the rate of the reaction increases appreciably; this can be seen by the large volume the oxygen gas bubbles through the hyrdogen peroxide solution.

  6. CONCLUSION • When a catalyst such as Manganese dioxide is added in a reaction, it speeds up the reaction . • The products form fast. • Activation energy is lowered by catalyst. • At the end of this experiment, hydrogen peroxide is decomposed into water and oxygen.
