  3. What are the gaps in existing CO2 footprint calculation tools along supply chains? How can the gaps be closed? How can the existing CO2 calculation tools be technically harmonized? What data has to be provided by global operators for the calculation of CO2 footprints of freight transport along supply chains? What are the requirements for a successful implementation of the COFRET methodology? COFRET – core questions to be investigated

  4. Work Flow

  5. STEP1: Analysis of components of existing tools for CO2 calculation in freight transport (mode related, SCM related,…) What is calculated? What is included? Rules and assumptions, derived parameters – based on expert/ stakeholder/user interviews Logic behind calculations and sources of used data (data availability and quality) STEP2: Stakeholder-workshop (shipping companies, LSPs, project’s advisory board members and test cases partners) Work Plan

  6. STEP3: Development of basic principles for COFRET methodology (“common denominator”) STEP4: Workshop with specialists of development of SCM systems and existing CO2 calculation methodologies Development of approach for bridging identified gaps Identification of and recommendation for complementing elements for transport mode related emission calculation approach Development of methodology for emission calculation along supply chains; Specification of data format and quality requirements Work Plan

  7. STEP5: Development of the COFRET methodology for technical harmonisation of CO2 calculation of freight transport; mode based as well as supply chain based, applicable in Europe and globally Development of a prototype software tool tests (test cases) with stakeholders Research backed-up guidance for industry as well as for decision makers within governmental bodies and stakeholders Definition of requirements for successful implementation and application Work Plan
