  2. How do we form affirmative tú form commands??? • Usually use the 3rd person singular present indicative, unless it is irregular • Llena la solicitud con cuidado. • However, when the command is negative, we use present subjunctive forms • No llenes la solicitud sin leerla primero.

  3. Escribe con bolígrafo. Incluye una carta de recomendación. No escribas con lápiz. No incluyas fotos. Compare these commands:

  4. Negative Tú Commands • To form negative tú commands with regular verbs, we drop the o of the present-tense yo form and add the subjunctive endings:

  6. Negative Tú Commands TRAER as traig traigo No traigas eso.

  7. Negative Tú Commands PEDIR as pid pido No pidas una hamburguesa.

  9. Negative Tú Commands • Notice that -ar verbs take the ending -es and that -er verbs take the ending -as. • In stem-changing or irregular verbs the changes remain.

  11. Negative Tú Commands • Verbs ending in -car, -gar, and -zar have the following spelling changes in negative tú commands in order to maintain the original sound.

  17. Negative Tú Commands • Remember that object and reflexive pronouns are attached to affirmative commands.

  18. Negative Tú Commands • If the pronoun is added to a command form that has two or more syllables, write an accent mark on the syllable stressed in the present tense.

  19. Negative Tú Commands • ¿Llamo el jefe? • Sí, llámalo por teléfono si no puedes ir a trabajar.

  20. Negative Tú Commands • With negative commands, pronouns always go directly before the verb.

  21. Negative Tú Commands • No te despiertas tarde para llegar a tiempo. • No te preocupes por ganar más sino por trabajar bien.
