  2. Integers …. Are the set of whole numbers and their opposite: -5, -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 …..

  3. Absolute Value….. The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero on the number line. You can use the symbol [ ] to show absolute value.

  5. Absolute Value Write: [-4 1/2] = 4 1/2 [1.72] = 1.72 • The absolute value of a number is its distance from zero on the number line. You can use the symbol I I to show absolute value. • -5 -4 -3 -2-1-0 1 2 3 4 5 • -4 is units to the left of zero. • Say: • The absolute value of -4 is 4. • The absolute value of 1.72 is 1.72.

  6. WARNING!!!!!! • Important Notice • Remember this!!!! • Why?........................ • The absolute value of a number is always positive. • Because absolute value tells the distance from zero, not the direction from zero.
