  2. Hypothesis • Proper hydration positively affects maximum strength.

  3. Experimental Procedure • The hypothesis will be tested twice, one on two separate days. • The first test will be performed while hydrated. • Drink eight to twelve 8 oz. glasses of water the day prior and the day of testing. • Locate a bench to perform a bench press. • Before performing a maximum resistance bench press, be sure to stretch the tricep and pectoral muscles. • Be sure to have a spotter in case of emergency. • Start with a comfortable weight that can be pressed at least ten repetitions. • Lift the bar off the stand and slowly lower until the bar comes in contact with the chest(caution: perform slowly, DO NOT DROP ON CHEST). • After chest contact, press the bar back up in a controlled manner until the arms have straightened(caution: keep spine straight, avoid arching). • After the first set(repetitions of steps 8 and 9), add weight until only 1 rep can be performed in a set. • Record the weight and be sure to rest. • 1 week later, the second test will be performed. • Drink only one to two 4 oz. glasses of water the day prior and the day of testing. • Repeat steps 4 to 12 • (note: Be sure to have at least one or multiple spotters. This is extremely important in case of emergency. Performing a maximum resistance bench press can be extremely hazordous. This is not recommended for people with preexisting back or shoulder problems.)

  5. Graphing and Analysis

  6. Source of Errors • In every experiment, it is nearly impossible to eliminate all unwanted variables. • Some variables in this experiment include: • What was eaten before testing(nutrition) • Energy level at each test • Mentality

  7. Conclusion • The initial hypothesis was correct. • Hydration positively affects maximum strength.
