  1. Osnovna škola Bartola KašićaVinkovciErasmus+ project 2018-2020Stop Climate Change – Together Europe Achieves More Reduce, Reuse, Recycle April 2019

  2. The disposal and treatment of waste can produce emissions of several greenhouse gases (GHGs), which contribute to global warming and global climate change. The most significant GHG gas produced from waste is methane. It is released during the breakdown of organic matter in landfills. Modern society produces enormous amounts of waste and it is necessary to reduce the amount of waste in order to mitigate the climate change, mitigate harmful effects on human health and on plant and animal species.

  3. A landfill site is a site for the disposal of waste materials by burial. It is the oldest form of waste treatment (although the burial part is modern, in the past, waste was just left in piles) and the most common method of organized waste disposalin many places around the world. Hills of garbage in Slavonia, eastern part of Croatia

  4. Although we separate the rubbish and its disposal is organised, we produce too much waste and should try to reduce the amount of it.

  5. Pupils from primary schools in Vinkovci learned about waste, separating the garbage, recycling. A quiz was organised and they showed what they had learned.

  6. Mobile racycling yard: pupils had the opportunity to apply their knowledge about separating the garbage

  7. We took some old batteries and other garbage to mobile recycling yard when it came to our neighbourhood.

  8. We started with three Rs : reduce, reuse, recycle, but now we have more:RETHINK: think if you need all these productsREFUSE: do not buy a product if it is bad for people or environmentREDUCE: cut down the amount of material or energy you use as much as you canREUSE: use things more than once or make something else of themRECYCLE: reprocess and make something elseREPAIR: if something nis broken or does not work properly, try to fix itROT: compost

  9. There are boxes and containers in the classrooms and in the corridors for different kinds of garbage.

  10. “Down in the Dumps”, a school play about the importance of recycling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks6GUIr1XFY&t=130s

  11. At health Fair we sold old toys, clothes and books instead of throwing them away. Money was donated to charity.

  12. We also talked to visitors about our project activities and handed out bookmarks with motivational slogans.

  13. We announced a contest forthe best reusing idea. Pupils will present their ideas at Erasmus+ Day in June 2019and the best ideas will get prizes.

  14. We already had a workshop in the library, we used old T-shirts to make multipurpose bags.

  15. Much better than plastic bags!

  16. Our long-term goal is to live in a zero waste world. Zero Waste movement (život bez smeća) has the goal to create as little garbage as possible. The goal of producing no trash is probably impossible to reach, but we must try to come close to it.
