  1. Senior Project Portfolio Overview Find a way to take notes: you are responsible for this information. PORTFOLIOS ARE DUE APRIL 19, 2013

  2. Today’s objectives: • To understand the purpose of the SP Portfolio • To identify what is expected in your SP Portfolio • To understand how the Portfolios will be evaluated PORTFOLIOS ARE DUE APRIL 19, 2013

  3. Why do I have to make a portfolio? To showcase your accomplishments and learning To show your panel that you actually completed a project To answer questions about your project that your presentation will not cover Tangible evidence! Because it is one of the requirements and if you don’t you won’t graduate.

  4. What is the Project Portfolio used for? • To help your panel determine whether the project is ready for presentation.  • Panels will also take into account: • All other documentation (that you’ve turned in--or not) • Meeting attendance (or lack thereof) • General behavior in connection with the project • Overall project progress

  5. What are the required contents? Title page Cover letter Mentor/Expert reviewer letter Copies of approved Work Logs/Reflective Journals Tangible evidence Final hours log/plan for remaining work Any thing else you want

  6. I need more information… • Detailed guidelines for each section are online: • http://www.lwsd.org/school/EHS/Academics/senior-project/Pages/default.aspx • Good sample portfolios are available for viewing (not checkout) at the EHS Library. Ask at the front desk.

  7. Quality Control • Organize your Portfolio so that it is easy to read and understand: • Use section dividers or some other means of separating sections. • Plastic sheet covers are NOT required. • The Cover Letter should be a formal document.  • Address it to each member of your panel • Use a standard letter format, such as one used for HSBP • Confirm spelling of the panel’s names… • CAPTIONS: It is essential to label pictures, videos, and other evidence so that panel knows the context.

  8. More about captions • Captions on evidence should place the evidence in context: • What is the item? Who or what is on display? • What stage of the project does it represent? • What learning goals or accomplishments are the focus of the item? • If you have lots of pictures, etc. it is OK to group them: • EXAMPLE: “Pictures 1 – 15 show the progression of my first painting. These pictures were taken at the end of each work session. Note that between pictures 7-11 I completely redid one section of the painting.”

  9. Some logistics: • Complete all sections of the portfolio as instructed • Log any hours completed after 3/1 in “Final Hours Log” section • NO 4th Reflective Journal is expected! • Complete all sections of portfolio as instructed • Log any hours completed after 3/1 in “Final Hours Log” section • Include a plan for your remaining hours • You will need to log those hours and add that log to your Portfolio later • No 4th Reflective Journal is expected! Project done by 4-19 Project not done by 4-19

  10. More logistics: • You will receive delivery instructions closer to April 19 • A Portfolio evaluation checklist has recently been posted on the SP website • Specific questions? Ask your panel or Ms. Nasby (C236b).

  11. What happens after April 19? • Portfolio & Project OK = cleared to present May 22 • Something missing? Incomplete? = Not cleared • “Not Ready to Present” status indicates: • Missing or incomplete documentation • Failure to communicate with panel • Absence of evidence or evidence • Missing mentor letter • Incomplete (or missing) portfolio

  12. What happens if part of my project isn’t passing and it is close to May 22nd? Final presentation schedule posted 5/17 After May 22, presentations scheduled by panel at their convenience If you don’t present on May 22, you must present and pass by June 8

  13. So what do I do after I finish my portfolio? Start working on your presentation. Instructions are on the SP website. We will review the expectations in class on…. Be ready to present Wednesday, May 22!
