    1. Oxy-phenoxy (ACCase) Family commonly called graminicides – grass control herbicides – both annual & perennial Single site MOA – inhibits the ACCase (acetyl-CoA) enzyme system Systemic, foliar activity, little soil activity with reasonable rates Many have active and inactive isomers – only importance to this is trade name changes Fusilade > Fusilade 2000 > Fusilade DX Activity of this family often reduced when tank mixed with a contact herbicide

    2. More Oxy-phenoxy These are acids and are formulated at esters – no real problem with volatility, but these must be converted “by the plant” back to the acid! The formulation as an ester allows them to be rapidly absorbed by grasses and translocated These may become a very important tool if and when glyphosate resistant weeds develop or Roundup Ready crops escape or cross-breed After use – shoots slip, one way to know they are working.

Even More Oxy-phenoxy Essential to use surfactant or COC Most are very sensitive to drought – don’t use Select, Fusilade DX, and Select seem to perform better that Poast Plus in OK Hoelon not used much in OK – grazing restriction and not active on perennial grasses This family has made it even easier to go no-till or reduce dependence on DNA and incorporation. All cleared for use on cotton and soybeans. Keep away from corn and grain sorghum

Storm = Blazer + Basagran (cocklebur, morningglory, copperleaf, etc. much broader spectrum). Many additionally add a small quantity (just a few fluid ounces) of 2,4-DB and activity increases even more. EPA is watching this family pretty closely – must be some problems with animal toxicology

    24. Acifluorfen Used in rice, peanuts and soybeans Many uses replaced by newer herbicides, but if you have a spurge problem – here is a solution Farmers are concerned about injury to crop foliage, but we have not seen a yield reduction as a result of its use.

    31. Fomesafen - Reflex Soybean uses only. “IF” we could use it in peanuts – eclipta would almost be eliminated Has good foliar activity and pretty good soil activity. Seems more effective than Blazer and causes less injury than Cobra The residual soil activity is a bonus
