  2. CEPA Mission The mission of CEPA is to facilitate the selection and placement of students for English and Maths in higher education courses in the U.A.E.

  3. What is CEPA used for CEPA-Englishis a requirement for admission to the three higher education institutions (UAEU, ZU and HCT). Applicants must achieve a minimum score of 150 on CEPA-English.Students with CEPA-English scores below 150 CEPA will automatically be transferred to the HCT Diploma. CEPA-English is also used for placement purposes in first year English courses

  4. Why is CEPA English used for selection into Bachelors’ and Higher Diploma programs? Research has shown that almost all students scoring less than 150 on CEPA-English will fail to complete their courses at Bachelors’ and Higher Diploma level. This is because the English language demands of these courses are very high.

  5. When is CEPA test day? There will be only one date every year to hold CEPA. The next CEPA test day is : 10 th of May 2008

  6. The CEPA-English test lasts for 2 hours and consists of three sections: Grammar and vocabulary, Reading, and Writing. There is no break time between the three parts of the test. Instructions are in English and Arabic.

  7. Part 1, Grammar and vocabulary. 140 multiple-choice grammar items. 2.30 multiple-choice vocabulary items. Recommended time= 45 minutes * The grammar items are from common grammatical patterns in English. * The vocabulary items are from common English vocabulary.

  11. Part 2, the Reading section consists of: four descriptive or narrative reading texts, with a total of 25 multiple-choice questions. The four texts are about: 1.Non prose paragraphs ( brochures- tables advertisements – diagrams or charts) 2.Animals 3. People 4.Historical development of………... Recommended time = 45 minutes

  16. Part 3, the writing section The Writing section consists of TWO writing tasks: functional writing ,a descriptive/ narrative text. The quality of students’ writing is assessed in terms of grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and content. Task 1 word limit (20-30 words) Task 2 word limit (120 - 200 words) Recommended time =30 minutes
