TRAINING PLANNING PROCESS • Is an extension of the Battle Focus concept that links organizational METL with the subsequent preparation, execution, and evaluation of training. • Ensures continuous coordination of long-range, short-range, and near-term planning. • Commander’s assessment provides direction and focus to planning.

  21. THE TIME MANAGEMENT SYSTEM • Designed to PROTECT Training time for subordinates • Identify, focus, and protect PRIME TIME TRAINING periods and the resources to support the training • MUST BE enforced by higher HQ to be effective • Are depicted on Long-Range Calendars

No external taskings or distractions. • AMBERCYCLE- focus on individual, team, crew, squad, and leader training. Minimal taskings and distractions. • REDCYCLE- Details and other administrative requirements.

External taskings or distractions kept to absolute minimum. • RED CYCLE- Small unit training emphasized. Minimum number of personnel on administrative/support requirements.

  38. Training Schedules Is the Unit’s primary management tool to ensure that training is conducted in a timely manner, by qualified instructors, with the necessary resources, to the Army Standard.

  39. Training Schedules • Allocate adequate time for training preparation • Specify when training starts and where it takes place • Allocate adequate time for scheduled training and retraining as required • Specify the individual, leader, and collective tasks to be trained

  40. Training Schedules • Provide concurrent training topics that efficiently use available training time • Specify who conducts the training and who evaluates the training • Provide administrative information concerning uniform, weapons, equipment, and references

  41. Training Schedules • Training Schedule development is the primary focus of the Training Meeting • Specifics of training to be conducted is discussed • Provides detailed information necessary for the execution of training to the Army Standard

  42. Risk Assessment/Management • Starts in the Planning Phase of Training Management • Executed IAW FM 100-14 • Completed for all major training events on the Training Schedule • Can be included as Paragraph 6 (Safety/Risk Management) of OPORD • Appendix H of FM 7-1

  43. Summary • The Training Planning Process links the Unit METL with the execution of Battle Focused Training. Planning is a continuous, integrated process done in parallel at all organizational levels. • The Planning Process culminates with the publication of the Training Schedules and leads to the Execution of Training.
