  1. GUSTAR = TO LIKE

  2. Gustar is used to tell what people like. Gustar is an irregular verb, it does not follow a normal pattern. -If the thing the person likes is singular, use GUSTA Me gusta la pizza Me gusta el carro. Me gusta mucho el helado. ***Notice the use of the definite articles el or la with the verb GUSTAR***

  3. -If the thing that the person likes is plural use GUSTAN Me gustan las pizzas. Me gustan los carros. Me gustan los animales. ***Notice the use of the definite articles los or las with the verb GUSTAR***

  4. In general, the rules for choosing GUSTA or GUSTAN are: GUSTAGUSTAN One single object One plural object More than one object or more than one plural object

  5. When conjugating GUSTAR, use the following indefinite article pronouns to tell who likes something. I like We like You like Y’all like (informal) He/She/It/You like(s) They like You all like Me gusta(n) Nos gusta(n) Os gusta(n) Te gusta(n) Les gusta(n) Le gusta(n)

  6. When you use le gusta(n) or les gusta(n), the subject is often not clear. Ex: Le gusta la comida china. Who likes Chinese food?? Les gusta la comida italiana. Who likes Italian food?? In order to be clear, clarify who likes something by using: A + (person/thing) + le/les gusta(n)

  7. Now, look at the sentences before, but this time we know who likes what: A Billy Bob le gusta la comida china. Who likes Chinese food? Billy Bob A Juan le gusta la comida italiana. Who likes Italian food? Juan

  8. If you do not like something, place “NO” before the pronoun. When answering a direct question, use “NO” twice. No me gusta la fruta. I do not like fruit. ¿Te gusta la limonada? No, no me gusta la limonada. (No, I don’t like lemonade.)

  9. To ask why someone likes something, use “¿Por qué?” (why?). To answer use “porque” (because). ¿Por qué te gusta el helado? Me gusta porque es delicioso. (I like it because it’s declicious.)

  10. ¡VAMOS A PRACTICAR! For each noun, choose whether to use GUSTA or GUSTAN. 1. La hamburguesa 2. Las películas de amor 3. El helado GUSTA GUSTAN GUSTA • Now, translate the following to Spanish: • We like… 3. Linda likes • You (i) like… Nos gusta(n) A Linda le gusta(n) Te gusta(n)
