  3. Present Agriculture Scenario in Delhi State A. AREA • Total Geographical area : 1,47,488 ha. : (1,485 Sq.Kms) • No. of Villages : 196 • No. of Farming Families : 40,000 • No. of Small & Marginal Farmers : 34,000 • Gross Cropped Area : 25,093 ha. • Yamuna River Bed Area : 5,000 ha. Contd.

PRODUCTION2005-06 (Estimated) • Food-Grains : 1.75 Lakh M.T. • Vegetables : 7.10 Lakh M.T. • Floriculture : 6,000 Hect. • Fruits : 275 Hect. • Medicinal & Aromatic plants : 90 Hect. • Note : The certain Vegetables and Flower Crops have been damaged to some extent due to cold wave during the first week of January 2006.

CURRENT STATUS OF AGRICULTURE IN DELHI • Shrinking Area under Agriculture due to rapid urbanisation : Year Area in Hectares 1991-92 76,239 Hect. 1995-96 62,966 Hect. 2005-06 30,093 Hect. • Decreasing Irrigation facilities due to • Inadequate rainfall • Depleting Water Table • Irregular supply of Water through canal system • Saline and Alkaline Soil • As per Draft Delhi Master Plan 2021 published by D.D.A., the total area earmarked and would be available to the extent of 11,000 hect. for agri-horticulture, green belt, dairy etc. by the year 2021.

STEPS TAKEN TO IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY. • Intensification of public awareness programmes: • Supply of quality inputs. • Promoting Seed Replacement Rate. • Promoting Integrated Nutrients Management • Promoting Integrated Pest Management. • Promoting Agriculture Mechanisation. • Promoting crop diversification. • Intensification of Services. • Laying out Demonstration Plots. • Credit: Kishan Credit Cards issued - 4253.

Measures for improving Kharif Production • Intensification of extension services • Promoting Integrated Nutrients Management and Soil fertility status. • Promoting cultivation of pulses • Promoting cultivation of oilseeds crops. • Promoting Seed Replacement Rate • Promoting cultivation of medicinal and aromatic crops • Credit: Promoting more credit flow in Agriculture Sector • Other supporting programmes

Agriculture Marketing Measures being taken on Marketing Infrastructure and Enhancement of Competitiveness • Promoting competitiveness in Agricultural Marketing, scope of privatization/ participation of Co-operative Sector has not been barred. • Setting-up of Kishan Haat / Farmer Marketing for Direct Marketing of produce to consumer. • Rationalisation of Market Fees and only 1% advalorem has been inforced in all APMCs. • Connecting to AGMARK-NET has strengthening market information network in collaboration with NIC and NIAM to promote professionalisation in the management of APMC’s

Projects and Programmes being undertaken • Redevelopment of APMC’s Azadpur Market to decongest and provide modern facilities, amenities etc. • Computerisation and E-commerce for better efficiency and market management system. • Setting-up of Integrated Facility Centre • Development of Fruit Market in Tikri Khampur • Development of Kissan Haats • Shifting of Flower Trade from Connaught Place to Okhla. • Moderanisation of Chicken Dressing Plant with modern facilities and amenities at Poultry Market Gazipur.

  13. ANIMAL HUSBANDARY & FISHERIES SECTION LIVESTOCK (Total No. of Animals as per census 2003) • Cattle : 1,27,736 • Buffaloes : 2,53,944 • Sheep : 10,884 • Goats : 8,919 • Pigs : 28,611 • Horses : 924 • Camels : 42 • Total No. of Animals : 4,31,060

Activities Being Taken • All measures are being taken to detect and check the spread of Bird Flu. • Treatment of Sick animals (Small and large). • Timely vaccination against Foot and Mouth disease and Haemorrhagic Septicemia disease. • Surveillance to check outbreak of infectious or parasitic disease in the animals • Organising Animal Husbandry Training Cum-Treatment Camps. • Cattle and Buffaloes inseminated with frozen semen of the pedigreed bulls to improve Breeds.

  16. Contd…. • Round the clock emergency service in one veterinary Hospital in each District. • Mobile Veterinary Clinic in 5 Districts. Fisheries Section • Production and supply of quality strained Fish Seed of fast growing varieties. • Promoting Fish Farming in village water bodies.
