  1. Experience that changed my life… Everybody has one!

  2. Sometimes people have normal days. Yesterday, for example…: • I ………(eat) breakfast. • I ……..(meet) my friends. • I ………(go) to work. • I ………(watch) TV. No big deal. Nothing changedin my life. Ask a partner: What did you do yesterday? Use at least 4 past tense verbs to answer. .

  3. Sometimes people have interesting experiences. Talk to your partner about an interesting experience you had. What did you do?

  4. Interesting experiences might change your life… I traveled to India last summer. It was the first time I had traveled to another country. I met a lot of good friends in India. I still write to them. I saw a lot of poor people there and realized that I am very lucky. It changed my view of the world. Before I went to India I was a Management major. After I went to India I changed my major to International Relations.

  5. … or you might stay the same. I went to India last summer. I saw a lot of cool places. I saw the TajMahal, and I visited Mumbai. After that, I went to Goa and hung out on the beach. I fed some monkeys. The monkeys were crazyand tried to steal my purse! I was really tired when I got home. I might go to France next summer.

  6. BEFORE/AFTER A good way to tell if an experience changed your life is to think about how you were before and after this experience. For example: • After: • I felt grateful not to be poor. • I changed my major to International Relations. • I have friends from India and I still write to them. • Before: • I didn’t think about having money. • My major was Management. • I didn’t have any friends from other countries.

  7. You don’t have to travel the world to change your life! Small things can also change your life. Finding a new hobby! Getting a pet! Moving to a new city! Meeting a new friend! Starting school! Going on a first date! Learning a new skill! Joining a club! Reading a great book!

  8. Look at your Timeline Which experiences changed your life? What were you like before? What did you do? What were you like after? What new things did you do, think or believe? Use the Before/After Outline Paper to brainstorm about the experience that changed your life. Your homework will be to write a paragraph about this experience, talking about your life before and after using past tense verbs.
