  1. WELCOME 2 ELA Warm-Up: Come in and find your seat (name is on it) Write your full name at the top of your index card. Sit in your seat and wait for further directions There will always be a warm-up posted at the front of the room.

  2. Pass out Handbooks • Pass out school handbooks • Open to page 1 • We will highlight a few of the major things, but all things in this booklet are important • Make sure you read this on your own so that you know what is expected of your.

  3. Planners/Parent Letters • Pass out planners for this year. • These planers need to be kept up with all year and homework assignments need to be kept in them. • Pass out parent letters. We will read through it, but you need to take this home and let your parents read them, then bring them back signed tomorrow. This will be your first homework grade! Easy 100! 

  4. Classroom Rules • R- Raise your hand before speaking. • E- Expect greatness at all times. • S- Stay on task. • P- Preparedness is REQUIRED. • E- Eating/drinking is not allowed. • C- Come to class on time. • T- Treat others as you want to be treated!

  5. Consequences • Offense 1: Warning/Redirection • Offense 2: Lunch Detention • Offense 3: Choice/Parental Contact • Offense 4: Office Referral/Parental Contact • If you get 3 lunch detentions within a month, that automatically becomes a choice referral/parental contact. • If you get 3 choice referrals in one month it becomes an office referral/parental contact.

  6. Tardy Policy • You are expected to be on time to class!!! • You get up to two warnings a 9 weeks. • After those two warnings, you will start getting lunch detentions. Remember 3 detentions lead to choice. • MAKE SURE YOU COME ON TIME!!!

  7. Bathroom Policy • 2 free bathroom passes a 9 weeks. • After that you can trade bathroom time for silent lunch time. • We have assigned times for the bathroom. So any other time you will be using your passes or getting silent lunch. Class is valuable time and you miss a lot by being out.

  8. Homework Turn-In • Homework is due at the BEGINNING of the class period that it is due. • You will place it in your classes homework tray. • I will not except late homework • If you are out the day homework is due, it must be turned in to me the day you return at the beginning of the period. • I will handle emergencies on an individual basis • It is your responsibility to find out what you missed in class and assignments that you need to make up.

Icebreaker 1 • Pass out Bingo Cards • Write your name at the top of your card • The object is for you to go around the room and meet your classmates. • You are to get different classmates to write their name in ONE box that applies to them. • No one classmate can sign more than one box • You have 10 minutes….GO!!!!

Icebreaker 2 • Get in a circle around the room. • We are going to see who has a good memory and who doesn’t. • The 1st person will say their name and one thing about them. • Then the next person must remember the person’s name ahead of him and give his along with a fact about themselves. • The final person will be responsible for naming everybody in the circle. • I will start 

  12. Icebreaker 3 • The final icebreaker for today is called “Figure it Out” • Each of you will get a scrap sheet of paper. You are to write down 3 statements about yourself. 1 being true and 2 being false. Don’t make the false ones obvious. You will then partner up and your partner has to figure out which one is the truth and which are false. • Your goal is to confuse your partner!  • After its done we will may try to see if the class can figure out YOUR TRUTH!

  13. Review • What are my class rules? • What are the consequences? • What college did I graduate from? • What is my daughters name? • When is homework due? • Where do you turn homework in?

  14. Welcome Back! Warm-up: ~Turn in letters in your assigned tray. I will not remind you to turn in your homework everyday. Make sure you remember. ~Answer the following questions on a sheet of notebook paper. This will go in your binders later after we organize them. • What does R.E.S.P.E.C.T stand for? • What are the 4 consequences? • What happens if you get 3 lunch detentions within a month? 3 choice referrals within a month?

  15. Binders • Pull out your binders (should be 1.5 to 2 inches), the 2 pocket folder, and the dividers. • I am about to pass out your student handout for my class. This handout will be placed in your binders eventually. • Let’s get your binders set up. You will need to keep these organized the rest of the year.

  16. Binder Order • Divider 1: Warm-Ups (Need notebook paper in this section) • Divider 2: Vocabulary (Need notebook paper in this section) • Divider 3: Notes (Need notebook paper in this section) • Divider 4: Returned Work • Divider 5: Handouts/Reading Log

  17. Divider 1: Warm-ups • Add today's warm-up as the first warm-up in the warm-up section. Make sure you put a date at the top of this warm-up and that you date any warm-up from now own.

  18. Divider 2: Vocabulary • Each week you will a set of vocabulary that will be tested on Friday of that week. • These words and their definitions will go in the vocabulary section of your binder. You will get the words on Mondays and have to find the definitions on your own. • There will be activities throughout the week that go along with these vocabulary words.

  19. Divider 3: Notes Most weeks you will get an agenda. This will go behind the previous weeks notes. These agendas will tell you what is going on that week. This will separate your notes per week and will also come in hand for the random binder quizes.

  20. Divider 4: Returned Work • Throughout the year you will get some of your work back. This includes homework, quizzes, test, and group work. If it is graded it goes in this section of your binder.

  21. Divider 5: Handouts/Log • This section will be where you put your reading log and any handouts I give you that aren’t necessarily notes. I will tell you if something goes in this section of your binder. • Take this handout (Student Handout) and date it, then place it in the handouts section. You should always have this in your binder.

  22. Divider 5: Reading Logs • I will be keeping up with your reading logs weekly to make sure you are reading. I also will be checking your AR testing as well to see if it matches up with what your log is saying. • You are required to get 12 points this first 9 weeks. This will be incorporated into your 9 weeks grade. Also the weekly checks of AR Test and Reading Logs will be as well. • I am about to pass out your reading logs. • This will also go in the handout section. Behind divider 5.

  23. AR REQUIREMENTS ~Each night you are required to read at least 30 minutes. It can be a magazine, newspaper, or novel until you get to go to the library to get your AR books. After you have those you must read those 30 minutes a night. You will keep up with the pages read each night in your reading logs.

  24. AR requirements 1st nine weeks = 12 points 2nd nine weeks = 15 points 3rd nine weeks = 18 points 4th nine weeks= 18 points

  25. Binder Quizzes • Throughout the year I will be giving binder quizzes randomly. These quizzes will go in as a grade. You will have AT LEAST one a 9 weeks. • You will be allowed to use your binder and your binder only. I will ask questions that can easily be answered with your binders if you take the notes, vocabulary, and keep up with everything. You can answer by just flipping pages. It can be an Easy A.

  27. Diagnostic • You are about to take a diagnostic test dealing with grammar. • Grammar is one thing that should be review for you. You will take this individually. • It is to allow me to see where you are and what I need to go over and don’t. • Good luck!!! 

  28. Seating Arrangements • Now I am going to give you your assigned seat/groups • Starting Monday this is where you should be sitting when the bell rings.
