  6. Children’s Talk

  7. Matthew 6:25-33 - Do Not Worry • JESUS SAID: 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

  8. Matthew 6:25-33 - Do Not Worry • JESUS SAID: • 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.

  9. Matthew 6:25-33 - Do Not Worry • JESUS SAID: • 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'

  10. Matthew 6:25-33 - Do Not Worry • JESUS SAID: • 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. • 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

  11. Karen LaffertyThe composer of a very famous Christian song

  15. PRAYER FOR SCOTLAND

  16. Psalm 32:1-6* (p. 38) 1 How blessed the one who has received forgiveness for his sin! 2 Whose sins are covered from God’s face, Whose debt is cancelled in God’s grace; there’s no deceit in him.

  17. Psalm 32:1-6* (2/4) 3 When I kept silent, all my bones with groaning were worn out. 4 Beneath your hand I felt entrapped Both day and night; my strength was sapped as in a summer drought.

  18. Psalm 32:1-6* (3/4) 5 Then I laid bare my sin to you, the guilt that lay within. I said, “O LORD, I have transgressed”— And you forgave when I confessed; you pardoned all my sin.

  19. Psalm 32:1-6* (4/4) 6 So let the godly pray to you while you are to be found. Surely when waves are sweeping past And mighty waters rising fast, you’ll keep them safe and sound.

  20. Scripture Reading & SermonROMANS 8:28-33(p. 1135)

  21. Romans 8:28-33 • More Than Conquerors •  28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. • 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

  22. Romans 8:28-33 • 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.   • 31 What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

  23. Romans 8:28-33 • 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? • 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

  24. SERMONRomans 8:30(p. 1135)

  25. Romans 8:30 • And those he predestined, • he also called; • those he called, • he also justified; • those he justified, • he also glorified.

  26. 1 – GOD JUSTIFIES: BUT WHAT IS IT? • It’s a LEGAL word. The opposite of condemn. • It is the VERDICT that God declares on those who put their faith in Jesus. • It is not about having a perfect character, but it is about having a perfect STATUS. • IMPUTE = swapping credits and debts.

  27. 2 – WHY TALK ABOUT JUSTIFICATION IN THE GOLDEN CHAIN? • 30: Why not say ‘adopt’, or ‘reconcile’, or ‘redeem’? • Paul’s letter takes us into God’s Courtroom: The Bible insists that God is a judge. • If we are going to meet God, we need His mercy and His justice.

  28. 3 – GOD JUSTIFIES: BUT HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME? • You enjoy ACCEPTANCE with God. • You enjoy the FINAL VERDICT today! There is no exam to pass. • You know now that God is FORYOU! (31, 34, 35…) • You need (like Luther) to TEACH YOURSELF this truth of justification every day.

  29. Psalm 130:1-8* (p. 173) 1 LORD, from the depths I call to you; 2 Lord, hear me from on high And give attention to my voice when I for mercy cry.

  30. Psalm 130:1-8* (2/4) 3 LORD, in your presence who can stand, if you our sins record? 4 But yet forgiveness is with you, that we may fear you, LORD.

  31. Psalm 130:1-8* (3/4) 5 I wait—my soul waits—for the LORD; my hope is in his word. 6 More than the watchman waits for dawn my soul waits for the Lord.

  32. Psalm 130:1-8* (4/4) 7 O Isr’el, put your hope in God, for mercy is with him 8 And full redemption. From their sins his people he’ll redeem.

  33. Please join us in the entrance hall for a tea and coffee God Calls Us to delight in Christ and to Share His Hope.
