  1. Algebraic eLearning Training Storyboards Nicole Graham Post EDU624 Dr. John Jamison February 9, 2013

  2. Slide #1 Training Overview Onscreen Content • The course is developed into separate modules: • Introduction & Pre-Training Survey • Bloom’s Taxonomy for Technology • Desmos • Gizmos • Independent Task • Resource Discussion • Post-Training Survey • Course accessed through https://www.coursesites.com/ Fig. 1 Detailed Script This is a strictly online, asynchronous training developed using Course Sites. A first slide in the training may include some background and contact information about the trainer. This course addresses the diverse technology backgrounds of participating math teachers. Interactivity / Navigation This is an eLearning training. The left hand side of the page will have navigation links to each of the modules. Within each module, there will be a common format consisting of an overview and rich media tasks. Trainees move throughout the module in a semi-linear manner.

  3. Slide #2 Introduction/Objectives Onscreen Content • By the end of this online training, math teachers will be able to: • Redesign a current lesson using one of the technologies taught in the training • Locate at least one additional algebraic tool for each math unit • Evaluate algebraic tools to support higher-order skills • Redesign or create algebraic lessons utilizing algebraic tools not specifically taught in the training Fig. 2 Detailed Script To begin this training, the objectives will be listed along with a timeline for the different training modules. Interactivity / Navigation After reading the objectives and overview of the training, teachers should move on to the pre-training survey.

  4. Slide #3 Pre-Training Survey Onscreen Content Pre-training survey link [Insert link to Google form survey] Detailed Script In order to assess the needs of the trainees, teachers will complete a Google form survey. This information will be used to provide additional resources and support for trainees, as well as further extensions for teachers who master the material quickly and want to learn more. Interactivity / Navigation Trainees should continue on to the Bloom’s Taxonomy module.

  5. Slide #4 Bloom’s Taxonomy for Technology Onscreen Content Fig. 3 • A Description of Bloom’s Taxonomy and Educational Technology • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DLybFxTptI • Kathy Schrock’s Guide to Everything: • http://www.schrockguide.net/bloomin-apps.html • Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy: • https://edorigami.wikispaces.com/Bloom's+Digital+Taxonomy • Bloom’s Taxonomy Paint Palette: • http://ilearntechnology.com/?tag=blooms-taxonomy Detailed Script This module teaches trainees about Bloom’s Taxonomy for Technology. Here, teachers will get exposure to different websites and applications that are conducive to higher order thinking skills. Interactivity / Navigation Trainees should spend quite a bit of time exploring the resources available on the videos and websites. After this, teachers may move on to any of the website/app modules to learn more.

  6. Slide #5 Desmos Onscreen Content Desmos https://www.desmos.com/ Desmos YouTube Channel http://www.youtube.com/desmosinc Dan Meyer: Math Class Needs a Makeover http://www.ted.com/talks/dan_meyer_math_curriculum_makeover.html Fig. 4 Detailed Script This module explores Desmos through a variety of websites and videos. Trainees will explore the website/app on their own and incorporate this tool into an existing lesson. The lesson should be posted in the Resource Discussion Board. Interactivity / Navigation Trainees should spend quite a bit of time exploring the resources available on the videos and websites. After this, teachers should share their redesigned lesson in the resource discussion board. After this, they may move on to any of the website/app modules to learn more.

  7. Slide #6 Gizmos Onscreen Content Gizmos https://www.explorelearning.com/ EL Gizmos YouTube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/ELGizmos Fig. 5 Detailed Script This module explores Gizmos through a variety of websites and videos. Trainees will explore the website on their own and incorporate this tool into an existing lesson. The lesson should be posted in the Resource Discussion Board. Interactivity / Navigation Trainees should spend quite a bit of time exploring the resources available on the video and website. After this, teachers should share their redesigned lesson in the resource discussion board. After this, they may move on to any of the website/app modules to learn more.

  8. Slide #7 Independent Task Onscreen Content • Your task: • Find and research one or more sites/apps not explored in this training that support higher-order thinking skills • Share your findings on the Resource Discussion Board • Design/redesign one activity from each of your units to incorporate a higher-order thinking website/app • Post your activities on the Resource Discussion Board Fig. 6 Detailed Script Trainees will utilize their knowledge learned in the training and create or redesign activities. Depending on the comfort level of teachers, the trainer will provide check-in support on teachers as they complete their independent tasks. Created tasks should be posted in the Resource Discussion Board. Interactivity / Navigation After completing this independent task, trainees will advance to the post-training survey.

  9. Slide #8 Resource Discussion Onscreen Content • Discussion board posting topics: • Desmos applications/activity • Gizmos applications/activity • Higher-order thinking websites/apps • Unit activities • Ask the trainer • Miscellaneous Fig. 7 Detailed Script This discussion board will have specific threads created for each of the discussion board topics referred to in each module. There will also be an ask the trainer and miscellaneous thread. Interactivity / Navigation This module will be revisited several times throughout the overall training. Trainees should refer back to this link within each learning activity.

  10. Slide #9 Assessment Onscreen Content Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Rubric: http://edorigami.wikispaces.com/Rubrics+-+Bloom's+Digital+Taxonomy Fig. 8 Detailed Script Teacher’s activities will be assessed from the Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy Rubric, depending on what type of learning activity was created. Trainees will have access to this rubric under the independent task link to help assess their own work. Interactivity / Navigation This information will be posted within the independent task link.

  11. Slide #10 Post-Training Survey Onscreen Content Post-training survey link [Insert link to Google form survey] Detailed Script This survey will be used to assess teacher attitudes regarding the training and to improve future trainings on this topic. Interactivity / Navigation This completes the training module.
