  1. Florida Permanent GPS Reference Network R. Scott Harris Florida Department of Transportation Tallahassee, Florida

  2. The Anatomy of Our Network • Station Details • Planned ( 40+) • Installations prior to 8/04 (40) • Current spacing at 45 mile radius • Continuing densification to squeeze spacing down to 25 mile radius adding 30+ stations. • Recon (All)

  3. The Anatomy of Our Network • Circuit Details • TCP/IP • 56/128/T1 Permanent Virtual Circuits on Frame Relay • Near Real-Time (<100ms) • Secure • Redundant

  4. The Anatomy of Our Network • Network Operation Center • Windows based real-time Control and Integrity Monitoring software for a large network of reference stations. • Provides real-time statistics on GPS network performance and alarming for out of tolerance conditions. • Allows archiving and distribution of data • Hourly Zipped RINEX files

  5. The Anatomy of Our Network • Control and Integrity Monitoring • Real Time from Software • Post Processed from Software • NGS/FSL daily processing

  6. Primary Applications

  7. Airborne Kinematic Control

  8. Static GPS Campaigns

  9. 1 second data • 1 hour RINEX files • 24/7 • www.myfloridagps.com • RTK coming soon

  10. Additional Applications Water Vapor Analysis Structural Monitoring

  11. Sunshine Skyway Bridge – Tampa • 5 receiver suite • Other sensors being included • Installed 6/03 • Dames Point Bridge – Jacksonville • 4 receiver suite • Other sensors under consideration • Installation 1/04

  12. Future Network Enhancements

  13. Future Network Enhancements Real Time Kinematic

  14. Real Time Kinematic

  15. Future Network Enhancements Multi Sensor Monitoring System Bridge loading measurements, permanent deformation measurement, automatic observation of the bearing pads. Advantage: Flexible use of the total station for measurements with maximum precision in manual or automatic mode. Most importantly, the optical systems provide an independent check of the GPS measurements.

  16. Concept-to-Reality • All sites located. • Installations complete at 100% of core locations. • Control Center is fully operational. • Additional installations in progress. • R&D of future enhancements to continue. • Inclusion into NGS CORS network.
