  12. Galatians 3:20 A. Lukyn Williams “In a promise God acts alone; when a mediator is employed in any act of His there is the implication of plurality and separation from Himself so long as the thing mediated is in force.”

  13. Galatians 3:20 o de. Qeo.j ei=j evstin -- but God one is

  14. Galatians 3:20 o de. Qeo.j ei=j evstin -- but God one is but God is one

  15. Galatians 3:20 Now the mediator does not belong to a category of one but God is one.

  16. Galatians 3:20 Ron Merryman • in every case where mediation is necessary, there must be mutual obligations and responsibilities agreed upon by two parties. • the law contract required mediation because two parties were involved (God and the Jewish people). Both parties had to fulfill the terms of the contract. The contract is only valid so long as both fulfill its terms. • the promise contract however, unlike the law, is absolute and unconditional: Its fulfillment rests totally with the One who made it, God! On God alone rests the entire responsibility to fulfill the details of the contract. Thus the law is far inferior to the promise.

  17. Galatians 3:20 James Boice “Whatever the details of the interpretation—and there probably will never be perfect agreement on Paul’s precise meaning—the general thought seems to be that the promise must be considered superior to the law because the law is two-sided. The law was mediated, and this means that man was a party to it. The promise, on the other hand, is unilateral; man is not a party to it. This thought is intended to reinforce what Paul has said earlier about the unconditional and unilateral nature of the promises.”

  18. Galatians 3:20 NKJV Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one. NASB Now a mediator is not for one party only; whereas God is only one. KJV Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. NIV A mediator, however, implies more than one party; but God is one.
