  1. OBTAININGRESOURCES

  2. WHAT IS ENERGY? ENERGY is the ability to do work.

  3. Let’s look at some examples to help better understand the forms of ENERGY and their relation to work. Plants use the sun’s energy to grow and produce oxygen. A radio uses energy to produce sound. A mill uses energy to grind grain.

  4. HUMANS use energy in everything they do. Can you say things in which we use energy? Humans obtain resources from the Earth to do these activities. ENERGYcan be made from energyRESOURCES.

  5. WHAT IS A NATURAL RESOURCE? A natural resource is a material that comes from the Earth. • RENEWABLE RESOURCES • ALTERNATIVE RESOURCES • NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES CLASSIFICATION

  6. RENEWABLE RESOURCES What do you think a renewable resource is? Renewable resources regenerate or can be replaced in a short time period.

  7. LIVING THINGS WOOD ANIMALS NON-LIVING THINGS FOOD GARBAGE WATER SOIL

  8. ALTERNATIVE RESOURCES Alternative resourcesare all renewable but they do not need regeneration. What do you think an alternative resource is? SUN WIND WAVES

  9. NON-RENEWABLE RESOURCES What do you think is a non-renewableresource? Non-renewable energy resources cannot be replaced once they are used.

  10. FOSSIL FUELS COAL URANIUM OIL: Petroleum and Diesel NATURAL GAS

  11. GAME: “THINK LINK” EXAMPLES: The Sun and Wind are alternative resources. Natural gas and coal are non-alternative resources. THAT’S RIGHTTHAT’S WRONG
