NHIN and Veterans Health Administration Importance of Health Information Exchange • Cost Savings – Quick Release of Information, avoid duplicate services • Patient Safety – Avoidance of adverse drug events. • Quality Outcomes – Higher level of patients receive recommended care. Value Proposition • 3 out of 4 Veterans receive care from non-VA providers • Need for a more complete record to make informed decisions. • Relieve the burden on patientsand family for healthinformation exchange.
