BIOGRAPHY • Alphonse Capone • Born Jan. 17, 1899, Brooklyn, N.Y., U.S. • Died Jan. 25, 1947, Palm Island, Fla. • he amassed a personal fortune estimated at $100 million dollars •  leader of the Chicago mafia during the Prohibition era. • the fourth of nine children, quit school in Brooklyn after the sixth grade, and joined a gang

Bio Continued • Responsible For Countless Murders •  In 1925 Torrio retired, and Capone became crime czar of Chicago, running gambling, prostitution, and bootlegging rackets and expanding his territories by the gunning down of rival gangs •  The most notorious of the bloodlettings was the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, in which members of Bugs Moran's gang were machine-gunned in a north-side garage on Feb. 14, 1929.

  4. How he went to jail • In June 1931 Capone was indicted for federal income-tax evasion and in October was tried, found guilty, and sentenced to 11 years in prison and $80,000 in fines and court costs. He entered Atlanta penitentiary in May 1932 but was transferred to the new Alcatraz prison in August 1934.

  5. Death • In November 1939, suffering from the general deterioration of paresis (a late stage of syphilis), he was released and entered a Baltimore hospital. Later he retired to his Florida estate, where he died in 1947, a powerless recluse.

  7. Al Capone would be described as a Villain in history • He was involved in the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre, which resulted in the death of seven of Capone's rival gang members. •  it is believed that Capone personally murdered dozens of people and ordered the killing of hundreds of others.

  8. Villain continued • There is a story about 3 of his men planned on betraying him so he invited them over for dinner. Then after they were tied to their chairs will Capone beat them with a bat. After he was done they were shot in the head

Impact Capone had on History • AL Capone effected history by supplying people during prohibition with alcohol , in doing this he convinced people of the time that a ban on alcohol wasn’t necessary. • Also the FBI became a honest efficient law enforcement agency because No one was able to bribe them like they could the police.

Fun Facts • Capone’s specially-outfitted, bullet-proof Cadillac was seized by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1932 and later used by the government as Franklin Roosevelt’s limousine. • Capone got his “Scarface” nickname after a bar brawl in Coney Island that left him with three large slashes on the left side of his face. • After suffering a mental and physical decline as a result of neurosyphilis, a Baltimore psychiatrist and Capone’s personal physician performed tests that showed his mental capability had diminished to that of a 12-year-old.
