  1. Welcome to Alvaston Infant and Nursery School. Meet the team!

  2. Hometime The school day finishes at 3:15. For safety and ease the children will exit via the appropriate collection point. Please ensure your children (including siblings) do not use the climbing equipment during this time. Please let the Class Teacher or a member of the class team know if someone different will be collecting your child at the end of the day.

  3. Your child will be learning skills acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through seven areas of learning. • There are 3 prime areas, these are deemed to be essential to aid a child’s development. • Communication and language • Physical development • Personal social and emotional development. • These prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas. • Literacy • Mathematics • Understanding the world • Expressive arts and design. EYFS curriculum

  7. Learning ~ balance of guided learning and learning through play. • Tapestry – this is an online Learning Journey. We will add photos, observation and comments which you will be able to see. You will need to create your own password. • We value any contributions you would like to make in helping us get to know your child’s needs. Please use the information sheets. • You will be invited to discuss your child’s progress and how they have settle into school at our parents evening. Monitoring Progress.

  8. We have already started this process. This is where we observe your child in all areas both inside and out and identify the things your child can do and what they know. This then gives us a starting point and informs our planning. Baseline

  9. Sunshine, Star and Cloud • Dojo’s – children will be awarded a Dojo monster when they are behaving appropriately. • Golden Rules • 1) Be kind and gentle • 2) Be a good listener • 3) Be hard working • 4) Be honest • 5) Be respectful • 6) Be proud and positive Rewards and Sanctions

  10. Money Any money coming into school needs to be in a named, sealed envelope on a Monday and given to the teaching assistant or into the school office. Milk money is 80p per week after your child turns 5 years old. Enrichment activities. We ask for a voluntary contribution of £3 per half term.

  11. Personal belongings Please ensure ALL items of clothing/P.E kit/footwear/water bottles/lunch boxes are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Please check regularly after washing items as names fade quickly. Please ensure items not needed for school e.g. toys and teddies are taken home with you and are not brought into the classroom.

  12. Lunch time We are a health promoting school. We encourage you to provide a healthy lunch for your child if they bring a packed lunch. Please ensure your child has a separate drink for lunchtimes in addition to their water bottle in the classroom. Packaging – easy to open where possible. Please encourage your child to use a knife and fork independently.

  13. P.E. Encourage your child’s independence by practising dressing and undressing at home, zip up their coats, do up buttons, and put on tights/socks. P.E. kit consists of a white t-shirt, a pair of shorts (navy or black), a pair of P.E pumps. No jewellery please.

  14. Children will take part in a weekly Yoga Bugs session • Supports social and physical development • Supports positive behaviour and ways to relax and calm down • Story adventures Yoga Bugs

  15. Health and hygiene Head lice. Sickness ~ 48 hours. Medication ~ consent via the office. Toileting. Inhalers – need consent to have in school. Allergies e.g. food otherwise please let use know.

  16. Book bags are checked every Monday and when the child has taken part in a reading activity • Individual reading and Guided Reading. • Please do not put water bottles into book bags as they can damage the books. Book bags.

  17. Reading books Oxford Reading Tree Phonic Bugs linked to ‘Letters and Sounds’. Character sheets/Picture books/word books Books given appropriate to individual development. Record books Library books (every Tuesday tbc).

  18. Supporting Early Reading

  19. Setting a quiet time. Take a picture walk through the book. Encourage your child to point to each word as they read. Give your child time to work out what the word says encourage them to ‘sound out’ the word. Use picture clues to work out ‘tricky words’. Talk about the characters, events, and setting of the story. Talk about punctuation. Fill in the Reading Record. Stay positive and give lots of praise and encouragement Helping Children to Read
