  3. II. 2SAMUEL 2:1 A. I like this! 1. David asks the Lord a question: 2. The Lord answers, “Go up.” 3. David asks, “Where?” 4. “To Hebron.”

  4. a) Don’t you wish it could be that simple today? • b) You ask and God replies • (1) Don’t get that clear message from the Lord. • (2) Wondered if it would make any difference? • (a) Would we do better job at obeying?

  5. (b) Israel’s history as proof we wouldn’t. • (i) Love to give it a try! • (ii) David go to Judah to Hebron specifically. • III. 2SAMUEL 2:2-3 • A. David goes to Hebron with his family.

  10. 2. When pagan worship introduced, man names were changed. • a) “bosheth” = “shame” • b) Ishbosheth named for he was an imbecile! • (1) Wouldn’t be first time an imbecile appointed to office?

  11. 3. “Man-of-shame” becomes King. VII. 2SAMUEL 2:12-17 A. “Going out” to describe a military action. 1. A military action from Abner.

  12. 2. Decided to settle it by letting 12 soldiers fight. • 3. 24 soldiers killed each other! • a) Abner and the men retreated! • VIII. 2SAMUEL 2:18-23

  13. A. Asahel wanted Abner’s armor! • 1. Abner offers one of his young soldier’s armor. • 2. Did you notice that his brother is Abishai? • a) Think he heard this story MANY times? • 3. Other brother is Joab!

  14. a) If he kills Asahel Joab will not give up until he is dead! • b) It is either kill or be killed. • IX. CONCLUSION • A. 2Samuel 2:24-32

  15. 1. Do not think Joab knows Abner killing his brother! • a) It will be “bitter in the latter end”. • b) He plays the “were all brothers?” card. • (1) 20 of his men are dead! • (a) Abner lost 360

  16. c) Abner started this whole thing? (1) Not going to turn out well for Abner!
