  1. Creation of High Quality Content Dr Gottfried Maxerath, Moscow, 20th September 2011

  2. Blended Learning:Face to Face Lectures – eLearning (LMS) – Distance Learning (LMS) An LMS provides the framework for eLearning and Distance Learning in which content is being presented to the students in a structured way The “conventional” creation of high quality content is hard and time consuming (authoring, videos, multi media, drawings on smart boards etc.) The lifetime of the validity of information is getting shorter continuously , the amount of new information is increasing continuously (life long learning, vocational training) A LOR does not solve the problems in principle

  3. What is the “Essence” of an Institution of Higher Education? Why do students “pick” a particular institution? What is behind the “good reputation” of an institution? What makes an institution “desirable”? (from a student’s or lecturer’s point of view)

  4. “Essence” (2) Is it the over average IT infrastructure? Is it the nice buildings / cafeterias / dorms? Is it the library? Is it anything “tangible”?

  5. The PEOPLE The People working at an institution, their lectures, their tutorials, their seminars are the cause of the reputation and make this institution desirable (And without those people the IT infrastructure and all the other nice things would not be there either) Let’s make use of those People by:

  6. Knowledge Capture • Preserves the latest content created by the lecturers and makes it available over the internet as a live broadcast or for later viewing within minutes, whereby the links are published on portals or within an LMS • Captures the lecturer’s knowledge:Just ppt - bullet points/plain text put into an LMS do not represent the lecturer’s knowledge (they are boring) • Gives the students a “being-in-class-feeling” bysimultaneously recording high quality video streams, audio of the lecturer, ppt presentations, screen captures

  7. What you can do with Knowledge CaptureExamples • Build a library of reusable and searchable (keywords, phrases) lecture recordings, review sessions and tutorials (LOR) • Record lectures (classes) that also use multi media content (videos etc.) and give the students the “real class experience” • Record several HD video streams, ppt presentation, screen capture, audio • If required, edit the recording and/or add or insert other sessions or videos or other files to the recorded lecture

  8. What you can do with Knowledge CaptureExamples • Add reading materials to the recording for downloading • Provide the students with tutorials or preparatory material for next class • Recordings of role play (medicine, physiotherapy etc.) • Recordings of surgery, experiments etc. • Teach sign language • Put the links to the Captures into LMS • And much more…..

  9. Benefits to the Students • Access from home or work at any time to brand new content, to searchable lectures; the students can follow the discussions in the class, take their own searchable notes • Access to all lectures of the courses the students are enrolled in or to all recordings in the library • The students can review content, prepare for next class or exams, communicate with one another and with the lecturer…..
