  4. What are the civil rights issues you have experienced?

  5. Is education a civil right? • Is education equal for all students today? • Statistics . . . Education

  6. Statistics • Dropout rates at ACHS: • 10.7% for 11th grade • 3.0% Colorado average • These statistics are improving because of students like you • $8,500 more per year with diploma • Bachelor’s degree earns almost DOUBLE per year • Master’s degree earns an average of $52,000 more

  7. What civil rights issues do you face today?

  8. “6-Word Essay” • National Public Radio (NPR) • People send 6-word phrases that describe their experiences, observations, or opinions about race and identity • 6-Word Essay @ 2:30 • Examples: • “I’m your doctor, not the nurse.” • “But where are you really from?” • “No, I do not know karate.”

  9. Exit Ticket • At the top of the page, write your own “6-word essay” about your personal experiences with a civil rights issue. Below it, write one paragraph explaining your 6-word essay.
