  2. TECUMSETH NORTH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLOSURE AND PLANNING FOR FUTURE ACCOMMODATION AT ALLISTON UNION PUBLIC SCHOOL, COOKSTOWN CENTRAL PUBLIC SCHOOL, ANDTECUMSETH BEETON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) “D”

Board Decision Closure of Tecumseth North E.S. “That the Board approve the closure of Tecumseth North Elementary School on June 30, 2010”; Attendance Area Review For Students From Tecumseth North E.S. “That the Board approve that staff complete an attendance area review by March 2010 to determine which schools will receive the students from Tecumseth North Elementary School in September 2010”;

Board Decision (cont’d) Communication with School Communities Regarding Transition Teams “That the Board direct staff to communicate with the school communities regarding the transition team that will be established comprised of parents, teachers, and administrators from Tecumseth North Elementary School and from the receiving school(s) identified by the attendance area review”; Improvements at Tecumseth Beeton E.S. and Cookstown Central P.S. “That the Board approve that staff be directed to undertake improvements in Tecumseth Beeton Elementary School and Cookstown Central Public School using primary class size reduction funds allocated for this area”;

Board Decision (cont’d) Community Partnerships for Childcare “That the Board approve that staff be directed to pursue community partnerships for childcare”; and Replacement of Alliston Union P.S. on the Current School Site “That the Board approve the replacement of Alliston Union Public School on the same site as part of the 2009 capital planning process”.

  6. Closure of Tecumseth North E.S. Effective June 30, 2010 students will no longer be accommodated in the Tecumseth North Elementary School facility Students will attend other schools in the review area in September 2010

  7. Attendance Area Review An attendance area review will be conducted in the fall of 2009 to determine which schools will receive the students from Tecumseth North Elementary School in September 2010 Public input on specific boundary changes is requested Public meetings in September and October 2009 Board approval

As referenced in Simcoe County District School Board’s Administrative Procedures Memorandum A5500……. • “13.1 The area superintendent of schools will establish a Transition Team to facilitate the process of reorganizing the accommodation of students. The team will include from each school to be closed and from each school designated to accommodate the students affected by the school closure: • two (2) students • two (2) parents/guardians • two (2) teachers • one (1) administrator” Transition Team

  9. “13.2 The Transition Team will: • 13.2.1 Design an orientation program which addresses the reorganization process for the students and parents/guardians of the school(s) to be closed and the students and parents/guardians of the receiving schools. • 13.2.2 Consider making a recommendation to the Board that a receiving school be renamed (in accordance with Board Policy 4440) to reflect the consolidation, especially if a significant number of students have been added to the student community.” Transition Team (cont’d)

  10. “13.3 Facility Services will prepare a report on the possible use and disposition of the closed school(s). • 13.4 Implications for staffing will be addressed through the appropriate Collective Agreement”. Transition Team (cont’d)

  12. Community Partnerships for Childcare Surveys indicate there is community interest in before and after school childcare programs at Tecumseth Beeton Elementary School and Cookstown Central Public School

  13. Replacement of Alliston Union P.S. on the Current School Site The 2009 capital planning process will incorporate the replacement of Alliston Union Public School on the current school site Capital Planning public information sessions will be undertaken during the 2009-2010 school year
