  2. Fun Facts • An object that disturbs the waters surface, such as a rock, is called a GENERATING FORCE.

  3. Restoring Force • Force that causes water to return to it’s undisturbed nature.

  4. Capillary Waves • Small waves after the restoration of calm water.

  5. Gravity Waves • What’s referred to when the amount of water displaced is quite sizable, and the restoring force is gravity.

  6. Progressive Waves • The progression of a wave due to wind and continues in a particular direction.

  7. Period • The time required for one wavelength to pass a fixed point

  8. Swells • Long period, uniform waves.

  9. Deep Water Waves • Waves that occur in water deeper than one half of a waves wavelength.

  10. Surf Zone • An area along the coast where waves slow down, become steeper, break, and disappear.

  11. Breakers • Formed in a surf zone when the lower part of a wave is slowed by friction with the bottom.

  12. Tsunamis • Huge Waves likely to destroy many things.
