  2. Louis IX • Louis built this magnificent cathedral for many reasons. • His own personal cathedral attached to his royal palace. • He wanted to find many of the artifacts from the Crucifixion. Such as the Crown of Thorns, parts of the cross, and some of the weapons used to torcher him. • He fought for these artifacts in the Crusades. • After this magnificent cathedral was built King Louis died fighting in the Crusades or Holy Wars

The Cathedral • The Cathedral was designed in gothic architecture. • Pointed arches, stained glass windows, and other magnificent aspects. • It was built in April 26, 1248 • Known mostly for its magnificent stained glass window. • Was destroyed in the French Revolution and rebuilt years later • Today this magnificent cathedral is being used as a museum.

  4. The New Sainte Chapelle • After Sainte Chapelle was destroyed in the French Revolution it was rebuilt and redesigned by Violette-le-Duc • Because of the war many of the Holy relics were lost. • The only ones left today are held in the Notre Dame Cathedral Treasury.

  5. What People Want To See • Today many people go to see the 6,458 square feet of stained glass windows. • They also go to see over one thousand pictures of bible figures. • Today it is a must see when going to France because it shows the character of France during this time period.
