Most Common EEOC Mistakes Employers Make & How to Avoid Them Making any of these 10 EEOC related mistakes are common and can be quite expensive Find out what you need to do to act appropriately and avoid costly litigation 1. Conducting a timely, proper investigation when an internal complaint is made 2. Create a detailed and tailored anti-discrimination policy (avenues to complain, anti-retaliation provision, investigation provision, confidentiality provision) 3. Appropriately disciplining individuals found to have engaged in illegal harassment 4. Provide proper documentation demonstrating poor employee performance 5. Appropriate questioning during a job interview (Handout provided on proper interview techniques) 6. How to avoid being paternalistic when it comes to pregnant employees 7. Make reasonable accommodations for disabled employees 8. How to avoid confusing horseplay and sexual harassment 9. Avoid stereotyping with respect to filling jobs traditionally held by a particular gender 10. How to avoid being perceived as retaliating against employees There will be ample time for open discussion regarding what challenges and opportunities face human resource professionals today and tomorrow in regards to the common mistakes employers make when it comes to following EEOC regulations.
