  2. 1 My culture DAD’S SIDE: My Great-Grandfather: -Came to the US on a boat from England in 1892 My Grandmother’s Father was Irish (Maiden name: Kelly) My Grandmother’s Mother was from an English family that came to the US in the late 1600’s MOM’S SIDE -Great grandmother was ¼ Cherokee Indian -My grandparents both grew up in Southern Illinois 3 2 4 6 7 5

  3. 1 MY FAMILY MICROSYSTEM/ mesosystem -Me: Born December 23, 1990 in Decatur, AL -Family: Mom, Dad, Chelsea (23) -They are my #1 support system -Always there for me 2 3 4 6 5

  4. 1 MICRO/MESO SYSTEM NEIGHBORHOODS -MOORESVILLE: -Population of 63 -Oldest Post Office in the State (built in the 1840s) -Church where James Garfield preached in 1863 SEATTLE -lived in different neighborhoods around Seattle **Each have taught me how to appreciate where you come from and how to adjust to new surroundings and new cultures 2 3 5 4

  5. MICRO/MESO 1 2 EDUCATION -St. Ann’s (K-1st Grade) -St. Therese (2nd-8th) -Holy Names (9-12) -UA (Frosh/Soph) -WWU (Present) -Great education has presented me with many opportunities (job, higher education, scholarships) 3

  6. EXOSYSTEM 1 -Mom works for Boeing as a contracts manager -Dad works for the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL 2

  7. Bifurcation point #1 -July 4, 1998 -Moved to Seattle, WA -Mom got a job relocation to move to Seattle -Left my family, friends -Moved to a new and very big city -Culture shock at 8 years old, yikes! 1 2 3

  8. 1 2 Butterfly effect -Began rowing at Mt. Baker Rowing and Sailing Center in the summer of 2004 -Raced at the best regattas in the country -Got a rowing scholarship to the University of Alabama -Gave me my first job as a rowing coach in the summer of 2011 -Essentially the reason I ended up at Western 3 4 6 7 5

  9. 2 3 1 Butterfly effect (continued) -Went to the University of Alabama for my freshman and sophomore year -Went on a rowing scholarship -Blessing in disguise because my parent’s couldn’t afford for me to go to college at that time ***Where I met my three best friends!!  1 7 5 4 9 6 8

  11. BIFURCATION POINT #2 1 -Grew extremely homesick -Unhappy with rowing, school -Transferred to Western Washington in Fall 2011 2

Smith & Smith -“The notion of authenticity is concerned with something being exactly what it says it is; it is real, true and genuine” (p. 49). Becoming more aware of my actions and what I say and how they may reflect to others. • Stewart • “A fierce conversation is one in which we come out from behind ourselves and into the conversation and make it real” (p. 57). I am taking the time to genuinely listen to everything in every conversation I have  Helping me learn more about people around me and a part of my life and taking away different lessons and ideas from each person authenticity How am I working to become more authentic?
