  1. Science 5Unit 13: MatterLesson 1: What are Solids, Liquids, and Gases?

  2. Matter- Anything that has mass and volume. Mass- the amount of matter something takes up. Volume- The amount of space something takes up. Density= Texture- a physical property that describes how something feels Temperature- The measure of the energy of motion of particles of matter.

  3. Liquid- the state of matter that has particles side by side. Gas- the state of matter that expands to fill its container. Solid- the state of matter that keeps its shape and volume when it is placed in a different container.

  4. Compress- the ability to squeeze into a smaller space Condense- the change from a liquid to a gas Freeze- what happens to a liquid when it releases enough energy. Melt- the change from a solid to a liquid Evaporating- the change from a liquid to a gas

  5. Science 5Unit 13: MatterLesson 3: How Does Matter Change?

  6. Physical change- changes that can be observed without changing the type of matter. The properties will remain the same during physical changes.

  7. Chemical change- changes that cause a complete change in the identity of the matter. The properties of a matter will change in a chemical change. Reaction- caused by chemical changes

  8. **Most matter expands when it gets hot and contracts when it freezes, except water. expand contract

  9. Law of Conservation of Mass- mass can not be created or destroyed, only changed. Decrease- slow down or make less

  10. Science 5Unit 13: MatterLesson 4: What Are Mixtures and Solutions?

  11. Mixture • Solution • Sieve- a mesh screen • Magnet- tool that attracts objects that contain iorn • Float • Filter • Density

  12. Science 5Unit 13: MatterLesson 6: What is the Atomic Theory?
