  1. SCT DAQ Upgrade for High-mThe discussionWednesday, 16 May 2012 from 14:00 to 18:00 Steve McMahon RAL

  2. Thanks! A big thank you to everybody for preparing the material for this meeting. This is especially true of the non-SCT folks, some of whom have come a long way, or interrupted their vacation to attend.

  3. Aims • We need to be able to deliver an SCT DAQ system that will deliver good SCT (closer to error and dead-time free) data at 3x1034cm-2s-1 • In effect (unless we do something drastic) this means being able to drive the ROD-ROS link at close to the limit imposed by the ABCD-ROD. • The timescale for the upgrade is during the first long shutdown (2013-2014). • The solution should have certain, rather obvious, features: • It should be fit for purpose and it should meet the technical requirements imposed by the not replaceable hardware. • It should make optimal use of the existing manpower resources. • The individuals and participating groups need to “buy into” the solution. • We need to understand clearly where the boundaries of the solution are in terms of what is delivered (especially of that solution has its origins “outside” the SCT) • The costing should be clearly understood and a cost effective solution adopted. If necessary the cost can be spread over several years. I assume all of the cost will be picked up in SCT-M&O-B costs. • The timescale must be clearly defined and the solution realizable with clear margins for safety. • The number of open ended ventures should be minimized. • Remember also that the SCT will not be available for long periods in LS1. • I do not know how much of the DAQ infrastructure will be available for a lot of LS1

  4. The choice of solution • The choice is an SCT one. It will be taken between the SCT-PL and the SCT-DAQ group. • We want to get to this choice fairly quickly (hopefully a few days if not a couple of weeks) and I hope that at the end of this meeting we will have all of the information we need or know how to get it quickly.
