  12. Year 11 – Tips for revision Training for an exam is a bit like training for a race You can’t just read the theory, you need to practise – a lot! Past papers or exam style questions are the best way to ensure you gain a clear understanding of what’s required. We will mark as many as you can complete! Always check your answers, if it isn’t marked and it’s wrong it’s a missed learning opportunity Revise key formulae Stop ignoring the things you can’t do – challenge yourself

Year 11 – next year • Maths and English provision in post-16 education • 40% of all students do not get GCSE grades in English and maths by age 16 • 90% of those who don’t reach this basic standard by age 16, don’t achieve it by age 19 • From August 2014 the law changed • Students who have not achieved a pass in English and/or maths by age 16 must continue working towards these qualifications as a condition of their place

Year 11 - Revision • Don’t always revise in isolation • Maths is a social subject • Work with others, discussing and explaining maths • Make a revision plan • And stick to it! • Sleep well, eat well, drink plenty of water • Take regular breaks • Stay calm • Attend workshops or any extra revision sessions available • Talk to friends and family, tutors, head of house, maths teachers or head of maths if you feel under pressure
