Network Problem and solutions Internet in Mongolia ISPs’ Network Problem before 2001 Few years ago: (before 2001) • No Government Policy or development projects; • Each ISP built Internet connectivity with own ways (gateways) • No interconnection between ISPs is causing problem: - All traffic through Satellite connection, including between ISPs local traffic - High delay - Slow Speed - Bad Quality of Service 1994-2004 Asia Pacific Networking Group All Copy Right Reserved

Network problem and solution Internet in Mongolia Solution:Mongolian Internet Exchange Router, MIX Installed 2001 and solved previous problem ISPs reached an agreement and signed Advantages: • reduces resource burden on border routers (CPU, memory, configuration complexity) • reduces administrative burden on providers • optimize the Mongolian Internet Traffic Disadvantages: • must rely on a third party (for management, configuration, software updates, maintenance, etc) 1994-2004 Asia Pacific Networking Group All Copy Right Reserved
